Supercharger - Reston, VA - Sunset Hills Dr

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
I noticed this application submitted on September 2, for 12110 Sunset Hills Rd with the status of In Review.
Welp, that explains why I couldn't find it when I was searching on the old system - the document attached to the first post said 12120, not 12110, and I was searching by address. 🙃

For future searches, this appears to work as a direct link:

And if you click the subtle "Record Info" drop-down, you can choose Processing Status to see the latest updates, e.g. under Electrical Review it says "Updated to Waiting for Corrections on 12/13/2022" (today!)

So... still in process, and even making progress!

First bike ride of the season and I made it out to Reston. Construction has begun! No visible progress other than a fence though.

Funny, I'm seldom out that way but was just there a week ago and there was nothing. Must have heard I was there and @paulkva was headed out soon and decided they better get a move on. ;)
Funny, I was thinking there had been no activity on this thread in almost 4 months, so the fence could've been up for 3 months and we might not have known. Thanks for confirming it's recent. :)

Grateful for bike-friendly weather, and happy this supercharger construction is motivating me to take somewhat longer rides than I probably otherwise would have.

Good progress on excavation and conduit!

I also took a panorama shot but TMC says it’s too big to upload directly from my phone. Maybe I can shrink it more when I get home.

A couple of photos from today as well. That last one is the price schedule for the garage itself in case one wants to park after charging or some such.

Stopped by Friday afternoon on my bike. Not much visible progress since the last set of photos.

Presumably the transformer will go here (and I think you can see from this angle there's no meter yet):

Closer view of 4 stalls and a cabinet, all covered:

And a sign in the next garage over (closer to Town Center Parkway), which I found amusing in the context of my visit, as if they're being passive-aggressive toward EVs (obviously they're not):

All fencing gone, meter installed, still waiting on transformer.

I don’t think they have connected to the main power yet. I assume this new white tube protruding from the ground is involved and would be capped (or removed) if they were done. Also didn’t see any obviously new connections at any of the poles, but I’m no expert in this area.

Well I guess I got dropped from the notifications tab. I was in the area today and stopped by. All cleaned up ready to go just need the primary power leads pulled and the transformer set. The Primary could wind up taking some time if they plan on getting power off the pole across the street. we would see similar activity like we saw on the Gainesville Sheetz build out. They typically do not share telephone poles for power risers. Which would mean yet another pole to be installed right next to the existing ones. the 6" Stub up pipe would be run up to the new pole. See Sonny Daze's picture of the pipe in the grass.

Does anyone understand what the delay is?

These chargers have been ready but wrapped in white plastic for several months. You can see them from the W&OD and it looks like everything is there for a functioning Supercharger site. (There is a rumor that bureaucrats at Fairfax County are slow walking permits for EV chargers.)
