Guy said it's operational right now, just not open for business yet. Maybe tomorrow or day after to open. I’ll know more soon. Photos. Parking signs still need to placed on posts and pedestal numbers are needed. I’m sure inspection “sign offs” are stil needed. ..... by weeks end:)

Do let us know. Perhaps I'll try it Sunday on my drive up to Santa Cruz. My preferred route north is I-5, charge at Buttonwillow, to CA 46 west to US 101. But it's not quite do-able in my X90. Salinas is a 185 mi so it should work if the weather is good. Supercharger in King City or Soledad would have been perfect.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to post an update and confirmation yesterday - I had problems posting from my iPhone and then was busy until now. We did charge at Salinas around 11:45am. We were the only Tesla there when I arrived. There was a technician putting finishing touches to the electrical box - he confirmed they were live. By the time we left there were four other Tesla's there, so word got around quickly. Here are some photos:

Earlier this afternoon. Photos. Enclosure doors still need to hung. Looking good. Glad it’s up and operational!

Thanks for the photos and update. I like this location a lot. Charge while dining and if you need to pick up something to take home from a store lots of choices right there so very convenient. To me the stores here are more useful than the Gilroy outlets. We walk around there if we want to stretch our legs but seldom do any shopping there. The stores in this general area I can see needing something from. Quite a variety. Of course if you've been on the road for awhile at that point after charging you just want to get home and not thinking of shopping but if you're out and about down that way for an event or something makes for an easy stop. Sounds like this location is going to be well used.

We stopped at Salinas to get a quick charge boost for the final leg home. The photos don't really do justice to the size of this mall complex. There are a lot of stores and eating places, including B J's Brewhouse and Mountain Mike's Pizza. This supercharger looks like it will be a great alternative to Gilroy.

Important cautionary note, though: approaching this location from the south, the navigation system had us exit 101 at North Main Street. This unnecessarily takes you up Main Street for about a mile from the highway. Since we weren't driving a pickup truck with its bass thumping, we felt out of place for at least the first few blocks past the Monster Truck and Tractor Pull event at the Salinas Sports Complex.

There's no reason to go this far out of the way. Instead, take the Boronda Road exit, and then turn south onto Main Street for 1 block. It's much quicker and avoids a longer stretch of surface streets.

Boronda's the exit route we took when coming up from central calif. That routing Northbound via Main Street exit should be changed. That was from Tesla's onboard Navigate?? Unless someone's intent was to make you go through a good part of Salinas . Google maps from Atascadero directs you the Boronda Rd exit (#331). Heck even going Southboard from Gilroy it directs you to take the Boronda Rd. exit and you cross over 101 using the overpass on Boronda.

I know the whole area around the Northridge Mall and Harden Plaza shopping centers can get really congested during some hours but why not suggest the Laurel exit over Main at the very least. Puts you a lot closer to the Supercharger area than Main and you reach it before coming to the Northridge Mall so kind of avoid some of that traffic during busy times. That way you also get to miss the Salinas Sports Complex (and the Monster Tractor Pull :p ).

Yes, this was Tesla's onboard navigation. Somewhere south of Salinas, I tapped the red supercharger pin on the map; it popped up the status panel and I hit the NAVIGATE button inside it. Since I didn't know the area, I dutifully took the exit it recommended. Of course, when we were ready to get back on 101 and the onramp was basically around the corner on Boronda, I realized it had taken us on the "scenic route."

Seeing this makes me very happy that Tesla got ready for their growth in ample time.

It looks like the SuperCharger buildout was right on time for the most optimistic Model 3 ramp up, but now they're accidentally overly ready (even premature from a strategic timing point of view) with the SuperChargers. They're more than ready. Does anybody remember when negative spinsters were selling accusations that the SuperChargers would not be ready on time for Model 3? How wrong that turned out to be! Model 3 owners will never know the caution we earlier owners had to have with most long distance drives.

On the other hand, I have to wonder: have many people been finding good old Salinas a useful location to charge? Someday it will be more than utilized, but as of right now, it seems blissfully unoccupied.

I wouldn't do a victory dance just yet. As you noted, the Model 3 ramp up has been sluggish and certainly isn't anywhere near complete yet. Despite this, there are still supercharger locations like San Diego with long lineups. BTW this is off-topic.
