Supercharger - San Antonio, TX

I stopped by the San Antonio Tesla store this morning. While we were chatting about Supercharger V3 the Tesla product specialist I was speaking to promised that there WILL be a Supercharger in San Antonio THIS YEAR. Actually he said more than one - I think it was three. I told him I wouldn't count those chickens before they hatch. Nevertheless, it does suggest that Tesla considers San Antonio to be a priority.

Ok, ok. Fine. I'd normally wait until I could find a planning or building permit application which are more dependable, but I can't take the grousing anymore. So, here you go. A filing from January 2019 for a new Tesla Supercharger in San Antonio: TDLR TABS - Project Details

Location/Address: Huebner Oaks Shopping Center @ 11745 IH-10 West
Project Start Date: 2019-03-01 (this date from the filing is just rough estimate, not meant to be exact)

No information on the number of stalls or exact location within the property. And as I said, nor could I find a planning or building permit application yet on the San Antonio permitting portal. But I don't particularly like the way they manage the search functions. So it's still a real possibility that I just missed it.

Thanks for that! I don't know how I feel about that location, but I'll study it. Not as good for me personally, but probably functional.

I feel your pain about the SA Permit database search. You have to enter the address to find a permit, which is exacerbated on I-10 because the address on the entry is entered by the applicant, and they could put I-10, IH-10, I10, IH10, Interstate 10, or any number of other iterations of the street name, and you won't find it if you search for the wrong one. Fairly useless.

Huebner Oaks would be OK. I've been to that shopping center a couple of times to visit the REI. La Cantera (further north/west on I-10, near the intersection of loop 1604 and I-10) would probably be better. Maybe in the future there will be something there too.

Here is building permit 2454033 submitted February 7th:
Outstanding! All the subsection reviews have been done and approved except for the trees/landscaping. So, there's actually a pretty decent chance that construction could be cleared to start by the end of this month.

Kart meet horse in this city. As for the location, and sorry in advance to anyone who finds those of us who frequent the city for giving an opinion about the location (see above), but this is less than ideal. At this point, anything within 20 miles of the city center is better than nothing though.

Or, specifically, frequent the city from the particular direction that YOU visit from. It's a start, and once the 2nd largest city in Texas and 7th largest in the USA gets this first Supercharger, it will likely grease the wheels on getting one more convenient to you.

I live 90 miles west of SA, so it is on the correct side of the city for me. Just a little too far into the city than we go on a regular basis, but it will be useful on runs deeper into town, which is the only time we'd really need it anyway. If it had been placed on the east side where it would be more convenient to you, then it would be useless to me. You can't please everybody with the first location...

Not all are cretins in San Antonio. CPS energy has a fair number of L2 chargers throughout the city that can be used on an unlimited basis for $60 per year. True that there is a severe lack of DCFC in the city, there will be 100% more when the EA location opens, and that will double when the Supercharger opens. I guess they have the lead for the fastest growth of L3 charging?:p

Also note that there has been a permit before in San Antonio with no results.

YASAP - Yet Another San Antonio Permit
Actually there has only been one other that I can remember. All others were utility surveys, which is not a reliable indicator for construction. Maybe you are remembering all the failed attempts at locating the Service Center? Or the permits that turned out to be for the EA location?

But yeah, I'll believe it when construction starts.

Per Supercharge.info

San Antonio, TX
Status: Permit - 493 days
4331 Thousand Oaks Dr at Uhr Ln

Boerne, TX
Status: Permit - 354 days
28295 Frontage Rd

Yes, I suppose Boerne is not within San Antonio proper, but for those of use who travel through on I-10 -- or attempt to -- it looks like San Antonio!

Any of these 3 would have been helpful last week when I traveled from Three Rivers to Junction -- or last June when I went through from west to east. Borne and "San Antonio" were showing as permitted then. I was a bit surprised to find that they are still just permitted.

But then again, I *was* able to charge at Fort Stockton this time :)

Supercharge.info does not have a classification for "utility survey". In general, any reliable indication of intent to build is good enough, and classified as "pertmitted". The original location in Boerne was based on the property owner stating that a SC would be built on his property. Then there was a utility survey at the current location you list above (or close to it) and the dot was moved there. I'm not aware of an actual permit for either location.

Supercharge.info is not an accurate resource for data on actual permits.

The location at 4331 Thousand Oaks Dr. is definitely for an Electrify America install. It's probably not also a supercharger in parallel. However, just enough incidental evidence exists that an argument could be supported that a supercharger installation is also planned for that location (e.g. disagreements between the numbers of chargers in different filings, which could indicate 2 distinct installations). But, IMHO, that's not the case.

I've no idea what's up with Boerne.
