I think they've actually been more specific than that in San Diego. And they have to be, since there currently are three gray pins in the city. But the gray pins usually (always?) are a ways off.
Went this morning to take more photos and this is an even bigger project than that photo above could do justice. Hugs the north east part of the Target lot. Cabinets arrived while there today.
Unless Tesla started packaging them differently, those aren't the supercharger cabinets. For sure the one on the left is part of the switchgear. Likely the other two are as well.
What your guess about the completion date? - Trench and conducts layout, about two months - AC/DC Cabinets and chargers pedestals wiring, about two months. ... - High voltage transformer from PG&E, at least one year !!!
Way faster than that. Construction in less than a month. And SDG&E is on top of things, from what I've seen. There could be inspection delays in between, though.
Looks like 16 pedestals to me. I’m not familiar enough with all the pedestal designs to tell whether you can identify the type of Supercharger or whether they share common pedestals but probably easy enough to determine just by looking at pictures online.
Yep, not urban, so almost certainly V3. Have they installed any V2 stations recently anywhere at all?
I concur. Got around to doing an image search online just to look at urban Superchargers, and none that I saw have such a pedestal. Didn't have time when I was snooping around today. Just as well too! These things are going to be running 100% duty cycle I would imagine, once things get back to normal. Those California Camrys are everywhere around here! Definitely I am not going to be able to ever use this Supercharger. Interesting how inconveniently located it is from the freeway but I guess it doesn't really matter - not uncommon for V3 Superchargers in cities.
Glad these will be V3. The V2 are shared and really unreliable at least from my experience. The Qualcomm V2 always have 1 or 2 out of order and this is during the pandemic when there is light use. Also the charge rate on the V3 are more consistent. The V2 always drop for unknown reason even if there is no Tesla sharing the same charging cabinet.
Qualcomm has V1 with 150kw Max (theoretical) while Carlsbad and Carmel Valley (Del Mar) have V2s with 72 kw max
Rabbit hole here. According to Tesla, V2 is 145kW (now ~150kW) as of March 2019. Introducing V3 Supercharging But yeah, I guess we have to have someone carefully define all the types (I don't keep track of what the difference is between V1 & V2, and what that means!). The distinction that we were trying to make, in any case, was whether this was going to be 72kW, 150kW or 250kW. Maybe we should just speak in those terms. I think (hope) we can assume that any new Supercharger with a pedestal like this is going to be 250kW (unambiguously V3 I guess) and there is no reason they would install a 150kW Supercharger (V1 or V2 I guess are both 150kW, according to Wikipedia, and apparently Tesla) ever again (even if there were power limits at the site). And we've ruled out 72kW (?) chargers here (based on pedestal). I suppose logically 72kW would be V2 since they came out after the first 150kW (then 120kW) chargers, but that is apparently not correct. Shrug. They appear to just be called Urban Superchargers. I'm sure someone who is fastidious about this nomenclature can correct me.
The V1 are the super old ones that supports only up to 90KW. It was all white and metal. I doubt they still exist any more. They were the first and were quickly replaced by the V2 with initial 120KW charging. The Urban chargers were always called the Urban charger capped at 74KW. I never noticed them referenced as an V1, V2, or V3. V2 are the most common and the latest is the V3 which is up to 250KW.
Here are a couple of additional photos from yesterday. There are two fenced-in construction areas. The smaller one (see Pacific Ride's first photo, above) is directly adjacent to Mira Mesa Blvd. and also next to the existing Blink chargers. I think that construction area is for utility work to power the Superchargers (or maybe even new chargers for a different network's chargers?). The larger construction area (these photos) appears to be for the Superchargers themselves.
Yeah, I think this is an example of a location intended more for people who cannot easily charge at home vs. for travelers. For these folks, being able to charge at a local strip mall will be great. Existing owners and prospective buyers who live in apartments, etc. really need these.
3.8 miles off the 5/805 or 2 miles away from the I15. Good amenities nearby. It’s probably worth the extra 4-6 minutes driving (vs Qualcomm or One Paseo) to get a V3 charger
For sure. I think any V3 charger is preferred over the V2. The V2 now do not prioritize arrival time. They just share power. Really hate this when it is full because you don't know which cars are currently drawing a lot vs who is almost done. Also if you are charging unshared, later cars who arrive later can really screw you by just charging next to you. Ironically driving to this station might save you time compared to the Qualcomm charger even if you coming from the 5. LOL
