Supercharger - Santa Fe, NM

I'd be interested to know more details about these southern SC sites. We're planning on driving to Los Lunas over Christmas and can depend on the SCs along the way up to Albuquerque but after that, there's nothing! We're staying at Isleta and they don't have destination charging. There are some chargers on plugshare.com but they're slow.

Ideas?

The Supercharger is in Albuquerque. Los Lunas is only 15 miles from Albuquerque. Charge before you head into Los Lunas and you should have plenty of charge even for running around. Isleta is only about 10 to 12 miles from the Supercharger.

Maybe I'm missing something though.

I'll be visiting there for Xmas. Any chance it will be operational by then?

Supercharge in Albuquerque. It's about 50 miles to Santa Fe and 50 back. With a P85D that still leaves you with 100+ miles for small trips. Santa Fe does have a Chademo charger at the southern end of town near a movie theater with lots of shopping and eating for an opportunity charge if needed. There is a Chargepoint charger near the Plaza that is well hidden in a back parking lot that used to have the best burger truck in town (Bang Bite).

Hopefully that helps.

We'll certainly try that and see how it goes. Not sure how much driving between isleta and relatives homes there will be but we'll use 110V if we're desperate. We're also planning a side trip to ABQ to visit a friend while we're there so might try and time it for when we need to fill up. :D

Politics? Isn't NM one of the states that limits Tesla stores? Could be that making it easy to get to and Supercharge in the state capital would help with the visibility of Tesla among lawmakers.

Just speculating...

An Indian Reservation would be a good place for a service center and a showroom (by a casino?) The car dealerships don't own the Indian politicians like they do the NM ones.

Yesterday I got an email from someone who works in the Supercharger Team at Tesla telling me that they have broken ground on the site at Santa Fe, and that it should be open, barring delays, in about 4-6 weeks!

Ok that's the good news.

The "huh?" news is, I drove over to the Fashion Outlet Mall an hour ago, drove ALL OVER the huge parking area, and found zero, as in none, as in nothing, as in nada, sign of activity or breaking ground or even breaking a twig. No areas marked off, none of the usual evidence of a site.

I think they moved it. So I drove up Cerrillos a tiny bit to the Taco Bell / McDonalds / Starbucks area, which is a WAY better location, with TONS of room for a lot of supercharger stalls, and I found zero evidence of any "breaking ground".

So I am stumped.

I have calls and emails into this person at Tesla asking for clarification. Will update as soon as I have more info.

UPDATE: Tesla got back to me, insists the Fashion Outlet (a real wasteland imho) IS the site and that construction crews have already begun work. Either the crews are fibbing to Tesla HQ or Tesla is in error. There is ZERO activity at Fashion Outlet. Will swing by again next week for another recon mission.

I concur. I went by on Wednesday and circled the parking lot. Unless it is hidden behind the stores in the loading area then the most I saw was large electrical power lines prepared for future applications at the Northeast end of the parking lot. Those could have been for anything and nothing I saw looked like a future Tesla Supercharger station. I did see other places in the vicinity with similar electric power lines exposed.

Good news! They truly have broken ground. I can confirm that a Supercharger is going in in the parking lot at the Fashion Outlets, near the entrance/exit of the big lot, rather than close to the outlet stores themselves, which is good (less ICEing hopefully).

Here are some photos:

Just a half hour ago I was there and snapped these photos. The crew were digging the trench where all the chargers and cabling will go.

All the supercharger hardware appears to have been delivered. Including, most importantly, the porta-potty! Note the concrete slabs which I assume will be the bases for the actual charging "pump" holders.

Actual "breaking ground", as opposed to Tesla-speak "breaking ground" :) Trust, but verify, etc...

You wanted proof, I give you proof. "TESLA SUPERCHARGE" in the "SHIP TO" section. I love the fact that this huge item weighs 1,667 lbs.

Well, there you have it. The Santa Fe Supercharger is now under construction -- FOR REAL!

Yeah. That's the stuff I saw on Tuesday. I can see from the second picture that this Supercharger will have bathroom facilities. :)

The location for charging is about as good as it can get at the Outlet Mall. I believe there is a restaurant in the Hotel. There are public bathrooms in the outlet mall when it is open. There is a Taco Bell, McDonalds, Starbucks, and Subway within a short walking distance. A large Wal-Mart is also nearby that might be open 24 hours for very late night activities when the Outlet Mall is closed but a Supercharge is needed.

Stopped by the site yesterday. The crew was busy workin' away. They'd laid some pipes for the cabling no doubt, and seemed very busy. However, nothing worth photographing -- looks about the same as when I took the photos upthread. Will check back next week to see if the familair supercharger stands/pump-holders/what-DO-you-call-them-anyway are installed yet....
