Just stopped at this Sheetz location, and guess what? The Supercharger is almost ready! Expected to open next month (January 2018)! Address: 5295 Detroit Rd, Sheffield, OH 44054 Just off I-90.
I was told they were actually expecting it to open early in December, but they are still waiting on the electric company to bring the transformer or something and to hook up the power.
So, they're arranged as 2 x 4 perpendicular in a corner, right? ... EDIT: Wasted effort Anyway, that's great to see. Cleveland, OH is limited and the alternative was a Macedonia, OH diversion.
This is fantastic news! This just cured my range anxiety for my upcoming trip to the Detroit Auto Show (X 90D with five people). I’ve been exploring emergency charging locations in the event of snow, but Sheffield is a great mid-way location between Macedonia and Maumee if the weather is ugly. My hope is that Strongsville will be open by then, but they still have a long way to go.
You should also consider the one in Strongsville - it’s off I-80 and I-71 and is expected to be ready next month as well.
The only negative about this Sheffield location is that some other Sheetz locations have a small cafeteria where you can sit, have your lunch and check emails while charging. This one doesn't seem to have that, at least not indoors. They do make food to order and have premium coffee drinks, but you would have to take your lunch with you to the car. There are some other food spots nearby, including a KFC and McDonald's across the street, so no big deal.
These pix are from today 1/2/18 - I don't see much change since the 12/22 pix except the metal signs are now on. The Tesla logos were not lit and the SC site did not appear on my in car NAV. Will drive by again on Friday.
Please ask the manager there when the Grand Opening is expected to take place. Perhaps we should all come over to celebrate the event!
There are SC locations in the metro Detroit area that are 95% to 99% complete. I wonder if they are all going to be done around the same time so Tesla's team can commission all of them together...
I don't think Tesla is delaying any activations. From what I was told, they are awaiting the Electric company to turn the power on.
I stopped by today and spoke with the electrician. He said one more week of wiring to do. And then 1-2 weeks to test and do paperwork.
