There will be (12) charging posts installed at the head end of each existing parking space on each side of the proposed parking island. The address is: 3429 TORINGDON WAY Charlotte NC 28277 The approved permit link is WebPermit 7.3 - Project @BlueShift please update the link on your site to this thread for discussion and updates.
Construction has started per the Charlotte Facebook Page. "New construction has started in the Earth Fare Ballantyne parking lot... could they be actually installing the rumored Tesla superchargers???"
The permit if for Tesla Chargers and the construction has started. Sorry for the late upload these are ~9 days old. Got busy. The construction is on the Red Robin side of the lot. You can see the pad where the equipment will go is going to be in the middle of the stalls. Will get updated pics today. @BlueShift or @Chuq can this be updated on the site as well?
Excellent! I have often been in Ballantyne. This will be a very convenient location for all those people coming to Charlotte from the South.
Here are updated pics with conduits run already... There should be 2 pics above one of a permit posted onsite and one of a backhoe near the conduit pad.
Per notes on the permit site, they've already passed the Slab inspection which includes the conduits that will be covered by concrete.
Not sure I agree. It’s 7 heavily-trafficked miles off I-77, which is the direction most people will be approaching from the south—myself included. There are a number of exits off 77 in the Fort Mill-Rock Hill area that would have been better, IMO. But what’s done is done.
True. I was thinking more about my own habits rather than the I-77 choice. OTOH it's only five minutes away from I-77 out of rush hour. There should be a couple more Superchargers showing up within a couple months, maybe urban ones in, say, Executive Park and maybe Rock Hill. I speculate those because in several areas around the world several urban superchargers and/or V3 ones have shown up without warning where there were rapidly growing Tesla populations. That seems to have been the case with Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville and Atlanta, all of which had Destination chargers appear quite quickly as volumes increased then Superchargers came/are coming. Now that there are several Destination chargers in Rock Hill, Executive Park and other areas it seems likely the Charlotte area is soon to have some increased support. Of course I may be optimistic because of seeing totally unexpected locations crop up without warning in Miami and seeing New Brunswick/Nova Scotia plus access go from none to five in less than a year. Perhaps the ultimate driver for my naive optimism is that a Supercharger appeared suddenly about two minutes from my old house in Southern France. With one Supercharger now five minutes from our Miami place and the other one I now expect Superchargers to appear spontaneously by my whim. Thus, Mary Brickell in Miami opened in the parking lot of my favorite Supermarket. Sorry about the digressions...
I completely agree. I do not like this location. Maybe if it's urban chargers, but not if it's normal Superchargers.
I think it is perfect for selfish reasons. I always hate those guys that hog ths superchargers, but this is 3 miles from my house but with free supercharging....Honestly for a city of our size, this is overdue.
