Tesla Files Permit to Build Dealership in South Reno

Public records show Tesla plans to build a dealership at the former Sport Haus auto repair shop in south Reno.

Permits show that the electric car company also plans to build car service lifts and charging stations at the site, which is located at 9732 South Virginia Street.

The building can be seen from I-580 south near South Meadows Parkway.

Scandia Reality Group in Reno is listed as the owner, while Tesla Motors Inc. is the licensed contractor.

I'm a bit dubious. Tesla adds "charging stations" to all of its service locations as they need some way to charge up people's cars before returning them. So the Service Centers always include a bunch of HPWC, some 14-50 outlets, and often now a pair of superchargers inside. It doesn't mean that they are co-locating a publicly available supercharging station on the premises. In their recent openings that I've seen, they've stopped doing that. And in places where they've had them previously, Tesla has been opening new public supercharger locations near by and then de-listing the old ones at the Sales or Service Center so that they can monopolize the use for charging test drive cars or cars being serviced/repaired, etc.

Then again, Tesla does have a "Coming Soon" pin in Reno, NV. So, maybe this location will be an exception to what seems like their recent policy. If anyone can find a link to the source documents, we'd probably be able to figure it out pretty quick.

Agree with all of this. Plus, the Coming soon pins often just mean an expansion of an existing location. With only 6 stalls in a mid-sized city, the current location would be a good candidate for expansion. The Atlantis has a huge parking lot, so I could see them being willing to expand the site.

I've been there twice in the last couple months, both times during daylight, but not peak hours and both times half the stalls were full. It's easy to imagine this location having a waiting line during peak times this coming summer, if they don't expand or build a new one in the area.

I drove by this site a month or so ago and then again yesterday; there's been quite a bit of progress. A white brick wall has been put up around the back area and they've added several chargers in back (looks just like wall chargers on posts, no sign of superchargers). I see lots of Tesla's parked out front, and there's a couple flatbed's, like what I assume they use for home delivery. No signage yet, but lots of boxes and pallets visible through the front and a pre-facelift Model S parked inside (lol).

Just noticed that Tesla has a coming soon pin for a Supercharger in Downtown Reno on their website. I'm thinking one of the parking garages of the casinos.

Nope, I can tell you for sure that the Atlantis management is not willing to expand the site at present. Who knows what will happen in the future though. From my perspective a better location for an SC is near the junction of I80 and 395 (580) because that services people going long distances both East/West and North/South. There just isn't that much going on in South Reno for an SC to be of value. I haven't heard anything about a supercharger in South Reno, so it seems the title is still a bit misleading.
