Sweet!!! This removes a major obstacle when traveling to SLT. Previously, I had to top off in Truckee and take the long (but very scenic) road around the west side of the lake. This is perfect, way to go Tesla!

It's faster to go around the east side of the lake. Highway 50 is two lanes each way when you hit it at spooner summit all of the way around to Stateline. Yeah, I used to crawl around Emerald Bay behind campers doing 15mph, too, until someone pointed this out to me.

Yes, definitely faster, but often I find myself choosing less distance over less time to maximize range.

I was told at TMC Connect that the California lot at the Gunbarrel base has a destination charger. So it is viable to let your car charge there during a full ski day.

Nonetheless having a supercharger in the area is indeed good news.

I've tried using the destination chargers at Northstar Village a few times with mixed success. For a while they had 4, then 2 of them broke. It appears after nearly 8 months they still haven't fixed them. Last time I was there I had to backtrack to truckee to charge after snowboarding because the two working destination chargers were occupied. However, I still got free premium parking for my car by parking at one of the inoperable destination chargers so that was a definite plus.

Anyway my point is probably that you will have a low chance of using the single Heavenly destination charger unless you get there really early. More of a moot point once these superchargers are operating...

The comments to the reddit posting say the stalls are in the valet section of the parking lot. The smart thing for Hard Rock to do is offer charging as part of their valet service, moving your car when charging is complete. This would avoid idle fees and induce people to spend time (i.e. $$) in the casino.

This is what they have done at the new supercharger at Angel of the Winds Casino in Arlington, WA. They even put a big billboard type sign up by the supercharger advertising the service. I think I posted a pic of the sign in the Arlington thread if you want to see it.
