Now that i see the configuration...this one seems different yet again from all other Supercharger layouts. what the what? It seems there are too many ways to set these up, no standard. time will tell but it may confuse some. i could be wrong. pull in the far right one, back in the other two. i suppose cables will only reach to the Tesla car charge port in one way...

There are scores of Supercharger configurations that have one or perhaps two pull in sites with the balance being back in. Yes, the cables are relatively short, so there is only one way to access the cables.

On my way back to Oregon today. Looks pretty complete. I plugged in but only got “waiting to charge”. Soon!!

Anyone charge here yet?
Yes, though I didn't spend a lot of time there to check things out. I was just passing through. They are behind the casino. The parking lot they are in is a little cramped, but the chargers work fine. There were a couple more Teslas charging there when I arrived. Looks like across from the Superchargers are a couple of level 2 chargers.

Good supercharger. Feels a bit out of the way when coming from Reno but then it’s a quick drive to get out of town towards Mt. Shasta. It’s in the back of a very small casino, and not a fancy one, but it had a snack counter that’s open till 10 PM, and of course restrooms. They also have hotel rooms so the restrooms should be available 24/7. Pity they allow smoking, but that aside, it’s a convenient location for a supercharger in a small town.

Interesting article in the NYTimes about Susanville. I wonder if all this had something to do with the supercharger being located in this out of the way place, and in an Indian casino. I did wonder about the location. It's a very much needed charger, and it worked out well as far as I'm concerned, but it did seem a bit odd. Maybe there's some generalized opposition to EVs, or maybe it had nothing to do with politics, and was just a convenient location.

I can't access the NYT article, so don't really know what the author is saying.

We know that the criteria that Tesla uses for Supercharger locations include:

Access to the primary highway
Distance from other Superchargers
Traffic counts
Real estate costs with rent or other fees

Obviously we don't know how Tesla ranks these criteria, especially in a location like Susanville that will not receive a lot of use, especially when compared to locations along interstates. It is entirely possible that the casino is not charging Tesla any rent, while other locations in town that are closer to 395 wanted some sort of rent payment. Highway 139 is more convenient traveling to and from K-Falls. Moreover, the location is more proximate for those on SR36 coming over from Red Bluff or from Redding or Mt. Shasta City via SR44. I would guess that there is going to be a lot more traffic on 139 and 36 than those souls heading from Reno to Alturas and beyond.

While I do not know for certain, I think this location has nothing to do with local politics or resistance to EVs. Susanville's ecoinomy also relies upon vacation travel, and most politicians realize that there are $$$$ to be spent locally at restaurants, motels, and other establishments by people passing through. More than likely, the casino location made sense to Tesla.
