Supercharger - Susanville, CA (LIVE 29 Sep 2021, 8 V3 stalls)

That is an idea. Head west off Interstate 80 at SR 20 (about 25 miles or so west of Donner Pass.) SR20 will take you to Nevada City, Grass Valley, and then down to Marysville, just across the Feather River from Yuba City. It is all downhill from Donner Pass, so a decent charge in Truckee should see you through to Yuba City. Might be faster in the long run as well.

The only caution is that SR20 is occasionally closed during this time of year due to spin-outs and white-out conditions. I believe it has been closed about five times so far this season. Always check road conditions!
Well there's no way he would need to stop in both Truckee and Yuba City, especially in the downhill direction. Also, just taking I-80 all the way to Auburn and then up 65 to Yuba City is not much slower. It is also the safest route in winter conditions.

Thanks Guys. Still a complicated "Check on the weather and traffic" each trip type situation.

A supercharger in Susanville would put all of this to bed, but yes, the Yuba City supercharger makes the trip home faster in good weather because I can skip Roseville and take 20 from Yuba City to Truckee. Chico will be even better when it opens because I can go from Chico to Truckee via 70 to 20 and skip Yuba City traffic.

Welcome to EV travel in the mountain west in 2019!!

It will be a long time before you don't have to consider checking weather and traffic when driving through places like Susanville. You have to consider yourself to be more of a pilot than a driver.

First, he was talking about doing a range charge at the Reno Supercharger. It just seemed automatic to forgo the range charge and hit Truckee on his way out of town.

Second, highway 49 heads out of Auburn north to Grass Valley/Nevada City and south to Placerville. Highway 65 heads north to Marysville/SR70 from Roseville. And if he is heading on Interstate 80, he could just charge at Rocklin or Roseville and skip Yuba City. Probably more to do at Roseville, and Rocklin has the lounge.

Truckee isn't on the fastest route from Reno to Redding so it doesn't seem "automatic" in any sense. As always with EVs you have to weigh the time cost of slower charging vs taking a slower route. Sometimes many options take a similar amount of time.

We have been close to taking the Shasta city to Reno route via Susanville a couple of times. Hope there is some sign of Tesla starting to work on a SC site in Susanville soon.

We stopped at Susanville for a little over an hour and it gave enough miles to make it either Kfalls to Reno and on way back Reno to Best Western. Seems like we had more miles to spare with going to Best Western than traveling to Reno....but we made it! I definitely would love to see a supercharger in Susanville. We are making the journey again soon and cutting an hour off would be so nice! We have a Model X 75D so range is probably similar

All great info in this thread. I just got back from a trip through (Klamath Falls to Reno and south) in my 70D. Overnighted through Susanville on the way down, and both EVSE at the hotel were used overnight,:) by me and a 3, and then iced as soon as I moved my car in the AM. Expect ICEing during the day, as these are near the front, even though there are plenty of parking spaces. My return trip was through Grass Valley due to timing and the Susanville hotel being full (on weekdays no less). I thought about a 2-hr touch and go, but really didn’t want to drive at night during deer migration time. I would love to see a SC in Susanville, but for me, more Level 2 EVSEs at hotels would improve the situation as well. I just don’t understand why every hotel in CA doesn’t have at least a couple of EVSEs. Edit: I forgot to mention, I didn’t see any SC-related construction anywhere in town, but I didn’t do an extensive search.

Personally, I've never seen them ICEd but I do recall that the cords on the Red Lion chargers were really long and I think there were handicapped spaces nearby, so it's unlikely that you would get completely shut out imo.

What Best Western are you talking about?

Well no sign of progress in Susanville but we are getting two more superchargers at Lake Tahoe which will be nice. I have been going through Susanville each trip from Reno to Redding, and charging at the hotel for an hour or so, there is a nice path to walk on and lots of food around. Hoping Tesla will see this and get this supercharger in! On the way home it's uphill so it would be a long charge, so I go through Chico and Truckee for the time being. Hope anyone going north out of Reno to Redding or Mt. Shasta or Klamath Falls can do the same.

Red Bluff opened today! V3! This gives Tesla more reason to open Susanville. 194 miles from Reno to Red Bluff is far. 110 miles from Susanville to Red Bluff - just about perfect! Anyone local to Susanville who can look around? No one noticed Red Bluff until it opened...

Here's a very tenuous possible mention from a Tribal Business Council meeting agenda of the Susanville Indian Rancheria (SIR): http://www.sir-nsn.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Regular-TBC-Agenda-12.01.2020.pdf

"H. Discussion Items -- 1.Tesla Charging Station Update"

No indication on whether the update/discussion was actually about Tesla's "planned" Susanville supercharger, as opposed to being about level 2 chargers. I couldn't find any published meeting minutes which might provide some confirmation either way. If this is actually about a supercharger, I think it would point to them being at the Diamond Mountain Casino & Hotel, as discussed up thread, which is governed by the SIR.

Diamond Mountain is the only plausible place where the tribe might put it. Can't say I'd be thrilled with that location, but I guess it would get the job done. I would be very happy to finally see a supercharger in Susanville!
