Reading that article it sounds like they felt forced to create a process for application, but have no interest in encouraging economic growth with EVCS.
Yeah, pretty sad. Zero forward-thinking. Board members soundlike they were drug thru the coals and excepted it, with one board member voting against it!

You have to remember that the process for creating, vetting, and approving new ordinances/rules can be quite time consuming and costly. For small jurisdictions that don't always have large staffs able to work on such things, that's a very big consideration especially when they don't expect lots of people to make use of the new rules right away. What most often happens is they will try to kick the can down the road as long as possible until they start getting the activity (in this case, applications for EVCS) in regular numbers, at which point the extra work entailed by not having the relevant ordinances already in place starts to balance or outweigh the extra work of creating the new rules. And then at that point, they'll do it.

Unfortunate, but not that surprising if you're at all familiar with small towns or low pop. jurisdictions.

You mean they don't have a staff of people specifically hired to do Tesla business ????????? !!!!!!!!!

I've lived in small towns that would have taken a decade to approve a SpC.

Not to mention that these towns and hamlets do not have staff that understand this sort of electrical infrastructure. I recall that when Lone Pine approved the permit for the Supercharger at the Film Museum, the city or county had to contract with a firm out of Los Angeles (or somewhere else) to do all the heavy lifting and inspections.

Begs the question on its location. Susanville is kind of split up between HWY 139 and 395 off HWY 36, so anybody's guess on its location? Seems like near the intersection of HWY 139 and HWY 36 could make sense, most likely in the Walmart/Safeway Parking lot near the Pizza Factory?. We visit there on a occasion but usually just to the downtown brewery for lunch. Speaking of locations.. The Lassen Ale Works Boardroom is as good a site as any :)..but highly unlikely.

I agree. The Walmart/Safeway Parking lot near the Pizza Factory is the best spot. That area has many commercial locations nearby and allows for other properties the Superchargers can be located. Rough distances (counter-clockwise order) are:

134 miles = Mt. Shasta - 134 Morgan Way, CA Supercharger
112 miles = Redding, CA
107 miles = Red Bluff, CA Supercharger
102 miles = Chico, CA Supercharger
85 miles = Reno - N Sierra St,, NV Supercharger
103 miles = Aruras, CA (CA-299 @ US-395)
200 miles = Klamath Falls, OR Supercharger (via a stop in Aruras, CA using US-395), and
169 miles = Klamath Falls, OR Supercharger (directly)

Indeed, many small agencies will contract out specialized functions and use consultants to provide staff augmentation. Some firms I am aware of are:

Services - CSG Consultants
Services - Harris & Associates
Coastland Civil Engineering

Well Redding was issued a permit last week for a supercharger at the new shopping center at Churn Creek road and South Bonnyview Road.

This is even more reason for Susanville to get a supercharger. Fingers crossed it happens soon!

Well, the only thing I can confirm from my connections at the Town, is confirming the rumor that the Supercharger is going to the casino. Which makes sense because it's not in the Town of Susanville jurisdiction, so they can't confirm or deny anything..

Good news that Susanville will be getting a much needed Supercharger.

Bad news that it is not a convenient location unless traversing SR139. It's okay off of SR36, but a larger than usual detour off US395.

But overall, good news!
