Just to correct a likely typo: Chino is in San Bernardino County near the three corners area of NW Orange County, SE Los Angeles County, and SW San Bernardino County. It is also the home of a state penitentiary for men.
On the other hand, Chico is the destination via SR36 and SR32 where the Supercharger resides just off 99. I know, I know, California and its crazy place names like Eureka and Yreka.
For those who may be inclined to take SR139 north to SR299 and then NE to Alturas, take US395. The former is a much slower road to drive, more narrow, and more serpentine. The latter is faster, with speeds up to 65, wider highway, and straighter. It also goes right by the Likely Saloon in downtown Likely. Great place to stop on a hot summer afternoon for a
.I would tend to agree that a 12-mile detour off a major highway might be considered the middle of nowhere. That said, it will break even at worst for time for those drivers to charge 15 minutes longer in Reno or Alturas thereby obviating the need to negotiate downtown Susanville. There is also a short-cut east of the US395/SR36 junction that shaves about 4 miles off the Reno-Alturas leg. However, for people heading to or from Klamath Falls or Yreka, Mt. Shasta City, or Redding/Red Bluff, the casino is only about a quarter mile off highway 36, which is about average as far as locations right off interstates placed at hotels or shopping centers.

It's nice that it creates a pathway towards the planned Alturas but I feel that it's more of a hat tip towards those coming from Reno having to deep charge to reach Mt. Shasta or Redding.
I'm looking at passing through Susanville in early June and debating getting a hotel if it's not built to L1 or L2 charge overnight and a general pitstop.
That being said, if Susanville is open, any recommendations on the better route (44 and 139) to go northward towards I-5? It would open up the route to Klamath Falls without driving slow.

Really depends where you are going. 44 to 89 is the standard route to Mount Shasta. 139 is the way if you're going through Klamath Falls. All of those roads are fairly scenic. And you might as well be adventurous in the summer because you probably won't want to go this way in winter. High elevation, not nearly as maintained as I-5, sometimes impassible due to snow... you get the idea. Burney Falls is a nice spot if you have a couple hours and want to take a hiking break along the way.
And as you figured out, this supercharger is less about Californians and more about connecting Seattle/Portland to Reno/Vegas (and possibly Arizona). You can actually tell who this benefits most by going back through this thread and seeing where everyone is from.
For those traveling through Reno to/from the Pacific Northwest, from Eugene or more North, e.g., Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, the usual route would go through Klamath Falls, which is 250 miles to Reno. And for those South of Eugene, e.g., Medford, the route would go through Mt. Shasta, which is 218 miles to Reno. We have planned for either route and have done both multiple times before getting a Tesla, so this Susanville supercharger will help in both cases reducing the max distance between superchargers down to 165 miles and 133 miles respectively.
Additionally, we've planned for overnights in Lassen, so this new location would help in reducing the concern of overnight losses to make it out of the forest and home at the end of a trip.

I have always "topped off" a bit at the Red Lion destination charger. It's okay in the warmer months but the colder it gets, more Superchargers are welcome. Keep going Tesla. All my routes are filling in...fast. So very excited for all my future Tesla trips.

I've read that someone from Reno called the casino to check and the confirmed it's going to open Memorial Day weekend!

This one is kind of confusing. As you can see if you zoom in far enough, there are two transformers in the background. Both were humming. But there’s still an empty pad for what I think will be the supercharger transformer. I think the other two are for the casino/hotel.
