According to @Justicepool , the Sweetwater, Texas Supercharger has been found and construction plans have been issued.

It will be at the Holiday Inn Express:

I know every city has different procedures for the permit process, but I think this is the final stage for any permit process that I'm aware of. And, I would venture to say the plans have actually been there before this morning, but just made their way to the final stage for approval. And, last time I inquired with the city before today I was told the permit was very close to being completed.

It's really great that you're able to do the legwork on those western Superchargers. Now we just need to confirm the Midland one is also at the Flying J.

Seems good. Also looks like a near intersection for US-84 to Lubbock/Amarillo.

FYI Shamrock is just 203 miles north of Sweetwater, and only 200 feet higher. I reckon that's do-able in 85kWh battery cars, if though not smaller sizes. That's a sort of connection between northern Texas EW routes and mid-Texas EW routes.

It's doable. I've driven Amarillo to Sweetwater by stopping briefly in Snyder to charge at a local RV park connected to a motel with WiFi. Sweetwater is totally doable from Lubbock, so lets hope someday Lubbock gets a SC too.

I am happy to say that I have eaten at "Skeet's Texas Grill" next door. Not bad food... or that good either ;)

Aww, you guys are making me nostalgic for West Texas now. I grew up in Snyder and my parents still live there, so I have partaken of the "new" location of Skeet's that is up in Snyder (at the old Taco John's). For Snyder/Sweetwater, its pretty good eats. :p

Well, I just called the Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater and spoke with Angie. She said no construction has started yet. Bummer. :(

I'm waiting for more permits along I-20 and I-10 to Tucson ,AZ. This have been a promised route for 2016. It's much better for winter travel that a northern SC route so it may be here just in time.

YAY!! I just spoke with the Front Desk at the Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater and she told me that construction has started!! She said they started last Saturday and they breaking ground as we speak! She did not have an Estimated Time to Complete. I'm hoping someone who lives close can grab some pics at some point in the future!!

This sudden western push in construction is a good tiding.

Yes, it would be nice to see San Antonio and westward to start progressing.

If they just proceed West on I20, then Midland would be next and that is the same person that owns the Flying J in Cisco. That should be a quicker project since they have already worked out an agreement with the owner.

I am not sure how it works in Texas, but in Louisiana and Mississippi the easiest way to get a heads up is to call the local permitting office in Midland and the county Midland is in. Same for other locations headed west on I20 (for rough locations see Tesla's official map for 2016).. Different permitting offices have different rules about giving out information, but in my experience most will let you know if a permit has been issued (or even if one has been applied for or if the office has simply been contacted). Think of the person you are speaking with as a civil servant and not as a bureaucrat (or worse). Be nice.

It's been promised since 2014; to date, they're exactly zero for eight.

At this point, dropping south from Central New Mexico to El Paso, elevation concerns aside, would be a good way to at least get to El Paso. From there, they could work their way west through Deming, NM to Benson, AZ, and east through Ranger/Van Horn to points east.

But someone in the SC Southwest Region group would have to acknowledge that lighting up the only transcontinental route that does not require chains and/or snow tires year-round is important for millions of travelers from CA to FL and points in between.

The towns are pretty much evident, and there are plenty of hotels and truck stops and fast food restaurants and town chambers of commerce/visitors centers from which to choose.
