We should have a thread for the supercharger at The Star. Otherwise it will feel like a neglected middle child.

Supercharging at The Star Sydney | Tesla Model S | Australia - YouTube

I realise this has been asked and answered a million times already but I would like to approach it from a slightly different angle.

So if I want to take the wife out on an impromptu date and grab some dinner at the Star, can I just rock up for some guaranteed free Tesla parking and top the car up as well? I mean the saving on that prized parking space is significant in itself, not to mention the free electricity to boot.

But is that the general idea? I mean it might be a good idea to allow the car to run a little low to have an excuse to do that.

Somebody tell me I've got it all wrong...

Superchargers are generally way-points, but the Star has real potential as the final destination in itself I'll wager...

Seems to work that way. However I have never spent more than 1.5 hours there, so I don't know what would happen if one stayed say three hours, or, what if one went down and moved the car to a vacant space freeing the charger up?even the middle space on each side which is not served by a charger? Frankly, I don't think the star would care. Once you are in, you are in. They simply let you out when you request.

Right now whilst the number of Tesla owners is low I think this is OK.
We visited last week, not really to charge but to go the Zumbo to pick up some Macaroons for a dinner party and bumped into Kate who was charging there and mentioned that there had been up to 3 Model S charging there in that evening.
I predict this Supercharger will begin to fill more frequent so I have signed up to SuperchargerQR so members can communicate when all the stalls fill.

My wife and I parked/charged there for a few hours recently. Arrived, charged up to 80%, parked (not in supercharger stall), then did a top up charge before leaving. The only problem I've had at The Star supercharger was finding it the first time I went there (on my own); not easy for newbs. I did the video to show my wife how to find it, and thought I'd share it with others.

What is this SuperchargerQR of which you speak?

Edit: never mind, google is my friend :)

Here is a link to the TMC thread for Supercharger QR

I think its IOS only at the moment so if you have an iDevice search for it in the App Store.

I am getting my QR code printed and laminated for the next time I am at the STAR Supercharger.

Just have to figure out how to attach it to the window.

I was at The Star on Friday evening and they now ask for your rego number when you enter.
Not sure what this means, perhaps trying to identify " regular customers".
I'll be back for dinner at the end of the month so will see if there's any reaction to staying a few hours.

Probably so that they can try and charge you for parking if staying more than an hour or two? Which bizarrely is actually counter intuitive because if you are staying for longer you are probably spending up big in their facilities?

I haven't been asked for my plates, but I haven't been there for a couple of weeks. I thought they would already be taking note of it anyway - I can kind of hear the pause when I think it's being written down by the operator on the other end of the intercom. There is a camera right in front of the car at the boom gate. Maybe the camera was on the blink the day that you were asked.
The longer we stay, the more we are eating and drinking there! I doubt that they are worried about that.

There are signs up now at The Star next to the superchargers that there is a time limit of one hour and than any additional time will be charged at casual rates. I'm not sure how they will enforce that: while they track when you come and go over the intercom, how would one pay?

If they do enforce it, this will diminish the utility of the supercharger. I tend to go there for lunch and that is usually about 1.5 hours. I've only ever seen one other Tesla there on a weekday.

If you are approaching from Pyrmont Street, turn right into Jones Bay Road. You will see the entrance to the Casino and Hotel and the red Tesla sign on the wall above, but a central barrier stops you turning in immediately. Go down Jones Bay Road and perform a U turn at the round about and come back and turn left into the main Casino Hotel entrance. Proceed to the far end of the entrance and you will see the entry to the Valet Parking with a yellow intercom box. Drive up to that yellow box and press the button. When they answer just say 'I have a Tesla for Supercharging please'. The gate will lift, then drive down and it will turn sharp left 180 degrees, only a few meters along turn right down the ramp, another Tesla sign to guide you, then immediately left at the bottom of the ramp. Follow that down about 60 meters and you will see the Supercharger station on your right. If full there are 2 spaces on the other side. Just plug in and walk back the way you came, the big wall contains the lifts to get up to the lobby area.
Plenty of places to spend your money on food shopping or throwing it away on tha black jack table.
When your charge has completed your app will notify you, to leave continue down to the end of the drive way you came in on, past all the Bentleys and Rolls and at the end, just across an intersecting drive way is another yellow intercom box. Press the button and say 'Tesla Supercharging complete, thank you'. And when they lift the gate follow the exit out in another U turn, go to the end of the entrance drive way again and the exit to Pyrmont Street is just to the right of the first Yellow Intercom box.

Charging

Hi.

I can post up a video on from my dash cam if you are interested.

Will go down today and do it

It is a little tricky and confusing and confronting if you do not know where to go -- also i find that the Valet Attendant feels like its a big job to have to attend the speaker phone to open the boom gate for you.

They ask for your rego now. There is a sign up if you stay for more than one hour you get charged normal parking rates. So you may get hit with a fee - worst case scenario just stay for the six hours and you can gamble your life savings away in about 1 hour. :)

There is a good pho restaurant I go there to charge and its late, open till 2am and i can grab a bowl of Pho (next to the baccarat tables on the gaming floor) for $20 with waygu beef. ) -- ok totally off topic but here:

Here are our parking rates per 6-hour (or part thereof) periods.
DayBetween 11pm and 5pmBetween 5pm and 11pm
Monday-Thursday$15$20
Friday-Sunday$20$25
Public Holiday$20$25

Asking for your rego number seems to be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they ask others they don't. Probably depends who is in that day. The only time I overstayed was when I organised a table of friends at Momo Fuku. If they had asked for parking I would have politely reminded them that I had brought a considerable amount of business to their premises but that was one of the times they didn't ask. I also used one of the Chargers around the back so as not to inconvenience anyone wanting to charge.
