Supercharger - Tucson, AZ - E. Skyline Drive (La Encantada Mall)

I'm guessing here as to why they picked this location...

This could have been a push by Macerich, the developer, offering incentives or money towards building it.

Macerich runs LaEncantada.

Their website also says they are the developers behind Fashion Square in Scottsdale (Tesla Store), Biltmore-Fashion Park (New supercharger going there now), and Kierland Commons (Tesla Store).

It'll be nice to visit when I get my MX late March.
Kierland also has an urban Supercharger near that Service Center, so your Macerich theory sounds spot on. Let’s hope they have developments near Payson and Globe:)

I'm finding that extremely interesting - it could be fun to sight along the curve: i.e., have you knowledge of Macerich operations that do not YET have SpCs?

Chandler Fashion Center would be a logical location if the Macerich link is a good predictor. A little love for those of us Southerners in metro Phoenix. I actually saw a small fenced construction area at that mall a few days ago but didn’t spot any Tesla boxes. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

Bit of a puzzling choice for a Tucson site. Nice that it's at a mall, but it's way out of the way for anyone going or coming on the interstate. The main access roads (Ina, etc.) aren't exactly wide and spacious. I mean, the more sc's the merrier, but Azred is right. I wonder why Tesla chose this location?
FYI Ina Road is closed at I-10 for another year or so.

I was in the area this afternoon, so I drove by to check out this site. It's on the western edge of the upper parking lot. I expected it to be adjacent to the existing L2 chargers, but it's not very far from them. I think this location at the edge of a busy parking lot, rather in the center where the L2s are, is a good thing as it might mean that these spots are less likely to be ICEd.
Construction seems to be at an early stage, so I'd guess it will be several months before this site is operational.

Stopped by yesterday. Hard to get a picture with the mesh they've got on the fence. They're trenching right now, no conduit in yet but it's on the ground ready. Early construction.

I did my routine Sunday morning 3 minute drive to this location to check it out and take a few photos.

Lots of behind the scenes work seems to be going on such as running of cables. It still appears that we have a few more weeks to go. I’m less reassured of the timing since there’s a small RV parked within the construction area.

Coincidentally, there are 2 nearby (one is 100 feet away, and other is about 200 feet away) small construction areas that make me wonder if they are related. Maybe the location for a transformer? I didn’t snap photos of those.

Many thanks for the photos.....

The conduit ups in your second photo from earlier today should be the location for the utility transformer. Usually a precast concrete slab with cutouts, placed over the ups once the land is leveled out.

Time frame to final completion is probably three months from now.

There are often delays with:
inspections; wire pulls from transformer to distribution cabinets; LED lighting installations; parking lot clean up; slurry seal of the overall SC site; striping of SC charging stalls; wheel stop installs; landscaping; pedestal numbering; final QA; voltage checks; city official ribbon cutting ceremony(if desired); etc.

Sooooo it may be a while... but please, don't stop with your great photographic journalism of this site.

It is appreciated by all who view the site on TMC.

The photos show us, in great detail, the progress that is being made.

I’m no supercharger expert (ha), but it seems this is well over halfway complete.

I’m going to drive by Sunday when I get back in town. Seems maybe cleanup, transformer and hookup, some sort of fencing around that equipment.

It sure seems this will be done in April. Fingers crossed! Can’t wait to try it out.
