If folks aren't aware, Tesla recently released a "Supercharger Voting" site. You must log in to vote. You get 5 votes. The initial set of locations was determined by Tesla and includes the following MN locations: Tofte, Virginia, Int'l Falls, Thief River Falls, Wilmar. You can also submit a suggested location for future voting efforts (I submitted the public parking lot in downtown Grand Marais)

So far looks like Tofte is the #1 pick in MN. Wilmar 2nd.

At first I was disappointed that Grand Marais isn't on the map but the more I think about it Tofte makes a lot of sense.

Not only is it close to Lutsen but it's a bit more equidistant between Two Harbors and Thunder Bay, ON. On top of that it works better than GM for a scenario I was considering this summer: camping at Trail's End Campground waiting for a friend doing an end-to-end solo BWCA trip. He started near Ely, of course. I had to opt for the Subaru because the charging setup just would not have been ideal. If the Supercharger was in GM that would mean running really low by the time I got from there to Ely and then TH in my MR 3. Charging up in Tofte makes that more possible. Round trip by the time I got back down to TH is 130 miles vs 160 miles. If I had a roof rack and a canoe with my MR I'd feel far more comfortable going 130 miles between charges.

I also feel Tofte makes a lot of sense, even more sense than Grand Marais. A significant amount of North Shore travelers are going to Lutsen for skiing/summer mountain slide and not going north of there. So Grand Marais being North of Lutsen is a tough sell. Maybe eventually add Grand Marais, but priority is getting a supercharger that helps the travelers to Lutsen

Remember they are doing this Quarterly. New suggested locations will be added for Q1/23.

I voted for Tofte & Virginia, MN. Rice Like, WI. Praire Du Shien, WI. and location in MT east of Glacier NP this round. I also suggested Minong WI. for a next quarter add in.

The reason for Minong WI instead of Trego/Spooner (the more logical location) is because it would be a better Splitter on US53 if Rice Lake gets a SuC.

It’s still 95 Miles between Duluth and Rice lake. Splitting that would be much better for winter 🥶 deep freeze range loss.

While Grand Marais would be my top pick I agree Tofte is better for Lutsen and people staying in that area. I can hit it on the way back from my place North of GM but for someone in Tofte GM is out of the way. The 50kWh in GM works and plenty to do while you wait.

While everyone else hates on the Duluth Supercharge, I am going to throw it some love. Went to Grand Marais in August and stopped at Duluth to charge. Loved that the charger was shileded from the elements. Loved that so many dining and shopping options were withing a few blocks of the location. (Did a little exploriing and ended up having sushi for lunch on the trip up and hung out at Starbucks on the way back home.)

And for those hating on the location of the new Supercharger, what is nice about the Two Harbors location is that it does break the trip from Minneapolis to Grand Marais into three 90 minute legs if you stop in Hinkley and Two Harbors.

I do agree that I would love to see a Supercharger or some Destination chargers in Grand Marais. My 2017 MX was supposed to use 45% of the battery from Duluth to Grand Marais but ended up using 65%. Also used about 10% running around the area. (So much for a round trip to Duluth!) Our hotel did have a couple of outside outlets and we plugged the mobile charger into those. It was slow, but worked.

Yeah, I more or less agree regarding the Duluth supercharger…
A covered location is nice to have. There are a multitude of dining choices close by, plus if you need a deep charge, you can even walk down close to the shore and enjoy the view. One issue was the local road construction, but that is done now. The biggest issue remaining is the limited 4 stalls with V2 speeds.
Regarding Hinckley…
This location can be crazy busy in the summer season. Tobies is great, but often not worth the congestion grief.
So, I think North Branch, to Carlton, to Two Harbors will be the best charger plan next summer! (For North Shore access)

100% agree with this. If it were 6 or 8 stalls it would be better. Or even 4 @ 250KW would be nice to speed up peoples charging times, though having a bit extra time here helps with grabbing a bite to eat or wandering around the area. I understand its an older charging location, but has been super helpful in my travels to Duluth.

The first time I stopped here a couple years back I had to wait as one of the stalls was out of commission, and the others were full. Not too long of a wait though, which wasn't a big deal. I use this stop a couple times annually to and from a fishing trip in the boundary waters. Without it, I would have to drive my gas car, as we wouldn't be able to make it from WI superchargers up to the border and back.

Also going to enjoy having a backup charging option in Two Harbors. We have some family there we usually stay with for a day or two during the trip, so it will be super convenient for me to stop there as well. Also nice to have redundancy in that area, as having only one supercharging location can get a little concerning if it is down for whatever reason.

Definitely puts my traveling anxiety to ease for this trip knowing I now have options to charge. Very happy to see the Two Harbors site being worked on actively, I'm excited to stop there next year!

I'm very curious as well, as i'm heading to Duluth on Thursday (from Thunder Bay) and this would be a nice stop for a charge.
If there's no update before Thursday i will check it out on my travels and report back.
No Luck - Plugged in & no power still.

The Two Harbours charger will be a great addition to the network when its activated, especially for winter travel.

Going from Thunder Bay to Duluth is a bit far for winter travel, even at 100% charge i arrived in duluth with 8% (Did predict down to 3%). In the summer i've gone from Thunder Bay to Blackbear Casino Supercharger with 23% left.

Leaving when it's -25C the car did not like that for energy efficiency but it all worked out. Can't wait for Two Harbours to open up!

@Python - I assume you use a CHAdeMO adapater as a just-in-case in Grand Marais? I've done the journey north to Thunder Bay several times recently, but I've always had a night's stay in along the north shore or some other charging stop at a park or restaurant. (Not out of neccesity, it's just always worked out that way.)
