Superchargers in Australia

It would be Newcastle-Bulahdelah-Kempsey so all good there. Kempsey-Grafton is 196km :)

Yep, cool. Bulahdelah would be a good choice as there are plenty of options there for food, etc, and close to highway. Nabiac also a possibility. Taree, only if you could get them in the service centre just off the highway (at the exit to Taree, Old Bar and the beautiful Manning Point).

Hexham was also mentioned to me (as the Newcastle option) in passing by a Tesla person involved in such things. ;-)

It would be great if they put one at the Taree service centre as far as convenience goes in getting on and off the highway. Only problem I can see is the charging spaces possibly getting ICEd during busy periods, unless they put them some place away from the eating area.

Nabiac is a great spot for a Supercharger...24 hour facilities at the servo AND Greenhouse Cottage - open 7.30am to 4.30 pm - one of the best places for food & coffee anywhere on the highway.

Hopefully getting close to a Seymour, Vic site selection.

I think Newcastle - Kempsey and Kempsey - Grafton would be too big a gap.

There was a lot of similar discussion on an earlier thread at http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/14254-Australian-Supercharger-network .

@heosat's map on page 9 would be close to the mark (and strangely not too different to Tesla's map :) ).

On the Sydney to Brisbane leg.

Newcastle to Port Macquarie
Port Macquarie to Grafton

Superchargers @ 245km distance between these points (according to Google Maps)

Not knowing the true cost of a supercharger install and the true cost for a HPWC install (like they do at hotels). I think it would make more economical and logical sense that they put more HPWCs in cities.

You're more likely just topping up rather than doing full charges. It would be super inconvenient if you were at your local Westfield, plugged into a supercharger and had to go back as soon as you started shopping to move your car from the supercharger into a normal spot

Wonder how many more will be planned for Melbourne in the next 3 years? More than Chadstone & Richmond would be nice.

The chargers at Chadstone are HPWCs, not Superchargers.

As Roentgenium said, it makes a lot of sense for there to be a rollout of HPWCs in the capital cities, as well as other "final" destinations, rather than superchargers. Superchargers in cities are mostly of use to people who live in units/apartments and are unable to have a HPWC where they live due to not being able to get one approved by body corporate or who only have street parking.

HPWCs are more than sufficient at destinations such as shopping centres and accommodation as you are likely to be parked there for at least a couple of hours (or overnight), the install cost would not be huge as they would already have decent power coming into the facility and the facility would be more attractive to Tesla owners than competing facilities that don't have any charging options installed. Another great place for HPWCs would be at either people's place of work or where they park their car for work.

I can't imagine a supercharger in Gympie. Not much point in having one anywhere North of Noosa really. (Unless they are running up to Townsville for example (which won't be any time soon)).

Really don't need them in Melbourne but in the areas 200+ km from Melbourne.
Not all apartment dwellers will be able to install a HPWC, either because of cost or lack of body corporate consent

They need to be near good coffee places... and they need to have free Wi-Fi at the charge points

Use the Beanhunter app to locate the SCs:smile:
