Getting so, so close. Delivery date is June 6. Car finished production on 5/20 and it has to make the cross-country trek (probably with Tiblot's car).
Just thought I'd share a few thoughts of the experience thus far...
1. I have an old BMW that for convenience reasons decided to trade it in through Tesla. I took pictures and sent my DS the VIN and he did all the rest. He got the bids and Auto Nation had the highest. This was a first for my DS- usually their private bidders win out. When you sell your car online like this there are a ton of extra steps which can hold up your financing process if you intend to trade in your old vehicle (any amount you can knock off the purchase price helps if your state charges sales tax). First, you wait for the bid which took a few days. Next, you have to talk to AN. I had some difficulty reaching my person. She went out of town but didn't change her voicemail message so I thought she was just too busy. After that, you have to schedule an inspection. I couldn't get one for 6 days.
2. Regarding financing, and perhaps it varies by state, but this trade in really adds a lot of steps to the process. In order to get the MVPA, you have to get the trade in finalized up front. Then, the MVPA comes out. Then, you can go to your financing establishment to get them to wire the money to Tesla. Because I have a 6/6 delivery date and a 6/2 inspection date, I'm going to have to push hard to get all the different parties to do their things quickly and accurately. It's adding a little stress to me right now.
3. My DS had a death in the family but didn't put any out of office memos on his email or voice mail. Note to Tesla: Train employees to use their out of office memos and voice mails!!! Also, if the service center has only one DS, I would recommend training a couple of other folks to be able to pick up the slack by cross training them. Or give some folks in Fremont the ability to keep the process running smoothly in the absence of local DS support.
4. Got my 14-50 NEMA installed Friday. Great electricians. I had some other stuff done, so it's hard to exactly measure the cost but I'd say it was about $200 all-in. Certainly helps when your circuit breaker box is right next to where you want to install the outlet. I was going to get a separate meter, but a neighbor friend of mine who runs a home technology integration business has a much cheaper solution. He's riding down with me to pick up the car so we'll chat about his solution and I will share what he recommends with the forum.
10 days to delivery. Can't wait!!!
