Suspension Upgrades - Melbourne

Hi

I’m looking at lowering my Tesla 3 Performance with some Eibach Pro Kit springs. The massive SUV style gap between the wheel archers and wheels unacceptable.

Does anyone know a workshop in Melbourne that has worked on Tesla vehicles.

I have a suspension specialist but he hasn’t worked on a Tesla before.

Not sure about the workshop but have a look at mountainpass performance (they are in Canada) for their coilover setup. I would recommend going with something that has been tested thoroughly. Eibach website doesn't mention 2021 performance so may be tread with caution. may be ask MPP if they know anyone who has worked on Tesla locally before.

You can get Eibach supplied and installed from Luxury Wheels Motorsports, Springvale. They have fitted a few Tesla's Model S and 3's with the Eibach. In fact im looking at fitting my Model 3 with Eibach's too.

I would like to obtain MPP comfort coil overs but the issue is i haven't found anyone that is familiar with Tesla that can install it.

110% you should contact Michael from Lucky Five Motorsport. He's worked on many Tesla's....I couldn't agree more than SUV gap on a performance model car looks stupid, as does the wheel offsets...I've lowered, put on sways and fixed the wheel offsets and what a massive difference in handling.

Michael lowered my Model 3 with UPP springs and sways...such a big difference....he'd have no issues installing Eilbach gear...

Ring him direct on: 0451 199 456

He's extremly knowledgable and nothing phases him, oh and he did my job in break neck time and near on 50% cheaper than other quotes I recieved.

I highly, and I mean highly, recommend him....mention Scot with the blue M3P....

Also, personally I would go with UPP in Australia...way better warranty and backup support....you can order from David from EVSports. David sells the UPP range (he's in Sydney) and he'll be happy to send anything you buy to Michael without issue...David can be contacted on 0414 646 680

See my car below, lowered but before I correctly offsets.

Did lowering the car make much difference to energy consumption? I was wondering if it might be a little better.

The handling will be better when pushed, but do you feel much of a difference handling and comfort in day to day driving?

Range
The claim of 8% I don’t think is accurate, however I would suggest I am getting about 3-5% more km’s.

Handling and comfort
Without a doubt the car handles better around corners etc., however it is also more comfortable….the UPP springs are dual rate and the soft part of the spring before moving in to the firmer part of the spring is vastly nicer over small bumps….so when driving hard and fast it is firm, however equally so when driving chilled and slow it’s a more comfortable ride.

Thanks for the insight

Hey @EcoCloudIT how long have you been lowered? Have you had any tyre wear issues? My 2020 LR has been on Eibachs for about 24000km and I'm having trouble with the rear tyres wearing a narrow strip on the very inside edge (pics attached). MyCar did the wheel alignment initially and it was all in spec, but I've more recently taken it to Tesla just to be sure. I then did a tyre rotation and it's starting to happen again.

I don't know a lot about wheel alignment and tyre wear, but from what I've read, this could be an issue with the toe angle. Do you (or anyone else reading this) know anything about this stuff? I might give your Michael pal a buzz to see if he's got any tricks for this.

With Melbourne being in lock down for around 150 out of 300 days it's hard to know tbh...I've only done about 5,000km's since lowering and all good thus far....was totally in spec with no adjustment needed.

However, after this set of tyres has had their day, and if I get the same issue as your tyres, I'll get the camber kit from UPP as it's not expensive to buy/have fitted.

I used to have an S with the 21inch wheels with the staggered setup (no opportunity to rotate) and I got about 60,000 on one set....the 22inch staggered wheels on my wife’s X is much worse....will be lucky to get 40,000km's on them, however from what I've been told that is exceptionally good for the 22's on an X....

Anyone had the mountainpass performance installed in Sydney? Any issues? Pros and Cons of this setup for Model 3 Performance?

How much did the ground clearance change from before to after with the new suspension?

Standard height of a Model 3 Performance is 14.5cm ground clearance, after I lowered on the UPP strings I used it is now at 10.7cm ground clearance.....one needs to be legally above 10cm in Australia so I like to ensure I am above this for insurance reasons.....I've not had any issues re speed bumps etc.
