Folks, made it today! From the Mexican boarder to Fairbanks Alaska in a Model S. Lots of photos, notes that I need to add to the forum. Made it Noon on 8/10/14. https://share.delorme.com/T5 (maps from Sacramento north) https://www.facebook.com/guy.hall.14 (Quite a few photos) Guy
Wow! Well done. I rode on that highway, but I was on a bus. It was beautiful, but long. And we didn't get enough time really to enjoy the nothing.
Folks, Had a nice interview with the Fairbank's Daily News-Miner Newspaper and met up with folks from Fairbank's electric utility, of course with test drives for all. Side note: I've given test drives along the route and learned that you should put the steering in sport mode. It's hard for new drivers to keep the car under control when punching it if you have set the steering in the looser comfort mode. In the morning, I start my return. Planning to get back via Whitehorse to Skagway and ferry to Seattle. Original plan was through Haines, but that has changed due to luggage issues.... If anyone wants to meet up in route let me know. FYI - put a post from a newspaper report on the trip under news section about the trip. Fairbanks Daily News Miner Coverage of California to Alaska Road Trip
This is awesome news! Really curious as to where you charged, whether there were any dicey segments, etc. Thank you for sharing.
T5 (TeslaTijuanaToTundraTour) in Alaska's capitol Sunday newspaper, front page again. Web version with more pictures is athttp://m.juneauempire.com/local/2014...town#gsc.tab=0 Interviewed for a radio news report today. Don't know if I'll ever hear it.
Will be doing that. - - - Updated - - - More news updates on the thread over in Tesla News. Have a public radio interview there. Guy - - - Updated - - - I'd like some suggestions and ideas on some T5 follow-up. I'd like to keep some attention on EVs and their infrastructure. I set a baseline to show it could be done, and how long it takes. With the increase in EVSEs and the gradual upgrades in electrical service in Canada and Alaska, others should be able to easily beat my baseline time from the Mexican border to Fairbanks. If like to create a trophy that would rotate to the latest holder of the record time. A couple questions for the Tesla brain trust. 1) is this too long? Should it be usa/Canada border to Fairbanks instead. 2) Should the trophy be for the shelf or car display? Guy
Awesome trip! Hope you have some time to update plug share to help figure drivers. I am sure cell signal is sparse but people could at Least print the list out in advance?
