Tagging other users in forum post?

I've observed in forum posts people tagging other users with the @ sign, but when I type @ nothing happens.... on other forums I visit this opens a search box to find the user you want to tag.

Is this feature actually supported or are people using VBB code to somehow do this?

You have to type "@" and the first three letters of the user name.. then a dropdown will appear to select a user and complete the tagging. Just "@" won't do anything. To tag you here, @voip-ninja , I had to enter "@voi" .

Why thank you @HankLloydRight ! I had only been typing two characters as the other forum I most frequently visit starts the matching with even one character.
