Just wanted to chime in again. Everyone should watch this video of the Taycan production line (is a little long). You WILL at least respect the quality Porsche extruded on production of the Taycan. It is almost unbelievable how well built and thoroughly examined they are. Even the robots work very slow in a metrical manner and almost appear to be checking their own work before letting the car pass. It is white glove inspected from front to rear and every panel seems to be felt by hand for ANY imperfections.

This is a main reason Porsche (and the Taycan) cost so much.
This shows why people are so enamored with the quality.

No way you can watch this and not have respect for the process and product.

I haven't watched Tesla's production video lately, but does Tesla not do this? Porsche does appear to slow down some of the automation and have more intricate automated drill and fill, bonding, and painting systems, but if you watch most of the luxury OEM's, you will see very similar stuff.

And yes, the robot is supposed to inspect its work after its done. I believe that's part of Industry 4.0.

Sure, and there's one guy who's only job is to put pinstripes on Rolls Royce "motor coaches."

Porsche can have 10 factory workers molest every inch of every Taycan with their white gloves when they're producing as many Taycan's in a year as Model 3s in a month. And they'll STILL occasionally run into issues.

This is not to give Tesla a free pass on quality, but putting things in perspective, Porsche is not positioned to "accelerate the transition to sustainable energy" with the Taycan.

Statistically every product made in the world will have some statical chance of having a defect. That doesn't mean a good quality control system shouldn't be in place. And although Porsche's goal isn't to necessary become the leas ambassador in the EV transformation, its role of producing high quality EV that adhere to Porsche principle is incredibly important. Getting the Taycan to behave and drive like a Porsche will convince the hardcore ICE enthusiast that EV is a viable platform. And it'll everyday lead Porsche to transform its remaining lineups to EV. If Taycan fails, we likely will not see electric 911 for a very long time.

So much respect for this nonsense... I certainly don't want anything extruded onto my new car.

Another article from a retard for retards:

Tesla vs. Porsche: Does The Model S Finally Have A Competitor In The Luxurious New Taycan?

Let's summarize their Model S Vs Taycan comparison

They are tied for size, because the Model S trunk is twice as big as the Taycan trunk. But the Taycan makes up for it by having a frunk which is less than a cubicmeter bigger than the Model S frunk.

The Taycan looks better - well yeah it's a coupe.

Apparently they are tied for performance even though they are posting a sheet of paper where the Model S is clearly superior (albeit not much).

They are tied for tech because let's face it. Having autopilot or OTA updates are not important...

Even if they were tied it’s a lose of Porsche because of the huge price gap.

Porsche is quite successful in the business of selling expensive cars. I doubt they care about Toyota, Tesla or KIA selling cheaper cars.

"In the 2018 financial year, Porsche AG achieved new records for operating profit, sales revenue, deliveries, and headcount.

The company’s operating profit grew by around 4% compared with the same period in the previous year, reaching €4.3 billion, and sales revenue increased by 10% to €25.8 billion. The operating return on sales was 16.6%. In 2018, the company delivered 256,255 vehicles to customers, representing a 4% increase on the previous year. The workforce grew around 9%, to 32,325 employees."

A strong year for Porsche: in pole position for electromobility

YEP! Porsche does know how to make a profit. Maintaining that profit probably factored into Taycan pricing.

Gotta love Porsche for their option pricing... Porsche Taycan configurator has a $500 option for... an mp3 file of motor noise - Electrek

The Taycan is a big departure for Porsche in that it’s their first EV, but there are definitely some ways it really feels like a Porsche. For example, the Taycan offers an insane amount of options — something Porsche is famous for. One of those options is Porsche’s “Electric Sport Sound,” a $500 option that adds fake, electric-like engine noises to the car. The “Electric Sport Sound” is described on Porsche’s configurator thusly:

Porsche Electric Sport Sound enhances the vehicle’s own sound and makes it sound even more emotional — both outside and inside the vehicle. Can be activated/deactivated via Porsche Communication Management (PCM). It costs $500, and is listed under the “performance” section of the configurator, alongside options like rear steering, dynamic chassis control, and brake upgrades.

From Jalopnik. (https://jalopnik.com/tesla-may-have-already-crushed-porsches-ev-nurburgring-1838179307)
We initially saw photos of one car with Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires, and those are not an option on any Model S from the factory. Now we hear the car (or cars) are using Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport RS tires, the most extreme race-focused but road legal tires Goodyear makes. It’s not immediately clear which tires the Taycan Turbo S used, but I will update this post when I get that information. (Update: A Porsche spokesman tells me the Taycan Turbo S record car ran stock, production 21-inch summer tires, which would’ve been either Goodyear Eagle F1s or Pirelli P-Zeros.)
Clearly an official sanctioning body is needed for Nurburgring times. Comparing times on ~300 treadwear street tires to tires in that class is dumb.
Personally, I like Motortrend's Laguna Seca times as a comparison since they're done with stock tires (which they document) and by the same driver (Randy Pobst).
I bet the Model S Plaid will be faster than Taycan when it comes out.
