Went through the configurator today and noticed the base option for wheels are now 19" Tempest. When did this happen?

Unless you are going to magic the lugnuts on, there is some kind of cover there.

Looks like the roadster will. Wonder if the carbon fiber rims will be in the production model as well.

Yes, it has had hub caps on certain wheels for a long time. What we are talking about here though is wheel covers.

How do you fit the recommended snow chains on with those wheel trims? [needs access to lug nut(s).] Suppose the trims have to be removed = a hassle.

That's not a LR+, so that blows my thinking that pretty much all the increase in range was down to the wheel trims.
In fact, that car listing just doesn't make sense. - Current model. Tempest wheels (trims / covers?). Long Range but not +?

My guess - they are upgrading all recent builds to LR+ range and adding Tempest wheels. The range just hasn't been updated on the site.

Yes, Tempest wheels are almost certainly wheel covers like the Model 3. Should just snap on/off.

That would make sense, but odd to not list as LR+ if it is LR+. I suppose this would be a minority car that has the old spec on window sticker. Not sure why Tesla would let that happen though. Stealth ownership of letest spec?

That pic was sent to me, so that is all I have. I have a car on order.. but am unsure on caps vs. my current model S which has the silver wheels. Thinking to get the carbon wheels instead.

I’d say it’s near certain that they aren’t making unique right and left parts, just like they don’t with the directional wheels.

The actual wheel without the cover doesn't look that bad IMO. I guess we had since September 2019 to train our eyes to love/hate the fact that "high end" Teslas now come with wheel covers , just like @dark cloud wisely mentioned...

I’d say it’s near certain that they aren’t making unique right and left parts, just like they don’t with the directional wheels.

I dunno.... Compare this pic to the (rendering) pic in the OP’s post. This “real” pic is of the right front, and the rendering from the online “build” tool shows left front—and they appear to be mirror-images.... Yes/no???
