Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, China is taking form at Ludicrous speed.

Construction of the 865,000 square meter Gigafactory 3 began only in December and is nearly complete. The massive factory will house production of the Model 3 and Model Y, as well as battery packs for vehicles. Musk has said that going forward, all factories will build both batteries and cars.

Videos of the factory’s construction shared online show the structure as almost finished. Tesla is already installing production equipment including “stamping machines, and the paint shop,” Chief Executive Elon Musk said last week during the company’s shareholders meeting.

Musk said the factory will likely be completed by the end of the summer, a feat Musk said could be a record time for bringing a car factory online.

The contractor on the project is China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., a unit of state-owned China State Construction Engineering.

Musk said Tesla wants to build 3,000 Model 3s per week at Gigafactory 3 by the end of this year.

Last I heard, Trump was going mano a mano with Pres/ Gen Secty CCP Xi.
Trump wants end of IP theft, Belt Road Policy, and S. China Sea acquisitions or have trade war! Trump was shocked by China’s reneging on already negotiated agreed policies. China wants to continue its world domination schemes IMHO. No doubt China wants Tesla mfg secrets and more, it already has 10 different brands of electric cars. DYODD! I have not checked this today.

Yeah - personally, I think the reason the Chinese are working so hard on this factory is so they can "borrow" the IP more quickly . . . we'll know about a year after it opens if we see a dozen competitors with the same hardware and software!

Elon has already made all the patents public... I would be curious to know where exactly he would draw the line on on software and hardware details...
All Our Patent Are Belong To You

Why wasn't this built in the US? Build them here and give us the jobs and then continue selling them to China and throughout the world.

To avoid tariffs and transportation costs and be competitive in that market.

Open patent only means others could use the same patented technology but they still need to learn how to do it themselves. A lot of things you can learn by reverse engineering but a lot others are not that easy to unless you "borrow" from the originator. That would be a violation of trade secret and is not permitted by laws, at least US laws.

So Elon is building a massive natural gas power-plant to build "Green" TESLA cars.
And China is building a massive coal power-plant every week or so for decades to come.

So natural gas produced "GREEN" cars - powered by COAL....
All to save the world.

What flavor Kool-Aid do you believers drink?

For the same reasons everybody manufactures in China, and also China is a larger market than the US and no tariffs, and it's good to diversify your manufacturing/sales for geopolitical reasons. Plus China needs to go electric more than the US does.

By that logic would a child born to drug-dealers that grows up to become an upstanding member of society be a waste of time?

Lay off the Kool-Aid

Burning clean organic renewable hydrocarbons is the most efficient way to generate energy.

Like Falcon rockets running on clean organic kerosene...

So when you need reliable clean efficient cheap energy - burn hydrocarbons..

Natural organic renewable hydrocarbons.

JUST like Elon.

Then you can build cars with natural gas - that will use coal generated electrify...

So virtuous...

Elon can't afford to signal his virtue like YOU....

He needs to make real world decisions that make senses....
