In case it hasn't been mentioned, Tesla registered a trademark for Model Y.
That was part of S E X Y.
Without Model E there is really no point to Model Why? I think that would be a marketing faux pas.

S X Y can also be read as "sexy" but it's more subtle.
I don't think Tesla ever chose trademarks based on them spelling out "SEXY", that was just happenstance.
Perhaps the Gen III car will be the "Model C" for "Compact"? But I doubt it. It sounds like it will be more of a mid-size car than a compact.
Would solve the issue of redesigning the nose-cone. Only drawback is all the Knight Rider jokes that would become contractually obligated.Ok I'll say it - Battlestar. And the auto dealers are the cylons.
Saw this today. Seems kind of weak that Ford applied after and Tesla still doesn't get the trademark. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1092057_next-generation-tesla-electric-car-wont-be-model-e-after-all

Could they rename Model X as Model EX keeping the Y alive?
Good idea, but how about S and X stat the same but Gen3 becomes SE and XE
