I heard rumors of this but wasn't sure of how it would be implemented. This is from the Tesla twitter feed Tesla Adds Titanium Underbody Shield and Aluminum Deflector Plates to Model S — Medium
Tesla Adds Titanium Underbody Shield and Aluminum Deflector Plates to Model S Anyone seen this post by Elon? Amazing response to the fire safety incident. It's awesome that it's a free retrofit. Tesla Adds Titanium Underbody Shield and Aluminum Deflector Plates to Model S — Medium
I stand corrected. Truly amazing response. I guess the question is when the retrofit will be available. I am still surprised the post was not first published on the Tesla site.
BTW the medium account sig: "Tesla Motors The official Medium account of Tesla Motors, maker of the Model S sedan and Tesla Roadster. Accelerating the world’s transition to electric mobility." there you have it. The internet does not lie. lol
I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It's a superman-like shield. Just goes to show you the smart people working at Tesla. Any MS owners going to get the upgrade?
Arguably these modifications were not needed. The fact that Tesla designed them and is making them available to all model S owners free of charge speaks tons about Elon and the company. Great job at turning negative press into a positive opportunity, raising the bar for customer obsession at a time when other manufacturers (Toyota and GM) are doing everything they can to earn back customer trust. Kudos.
My car went into manufacturing onMarch 1 and FINISHED March 6. Does it have the titanium shield? Haven't looked under the car....
I am calling my service center today since my car is already there. Who wants to take a bet that they don't have the parts there yet and probably don't know what I am talking about? in any case, another sign from Tesla that they are a different(read:superior) type of car company. GM- are you watching this???
Curious to hear when folks get this added - how is this new plate mounted, and does it affect potential battery swap capability?
It's on their Facebook account as well so probably real. Strange that they chose to use medium.com instead of their own homepage where all previous blogs/announcements have been made.
hah, that was my first thought, which I asked them via twitter. We'll see if they respond....Twitter / DDowhy: @TeslaMotors how will these ...
