Tesla Portland has been caught in the crossfire of the current immigration issue, in particular the detention and separation of immigrant families as reported in the news recently.
Portland's Immigration and Custom's Enforcement office (ICE) is adjacent to the Portland Tesla Service Center / Showroom, and both buildings have the same landlord.
Community protests against ICE have been growing steadily for the past couple weeks. The Tesla property and surrounding area has become a protest "camp." Some protests have even targeted Tesla for leasing their building by virtue of the same-landlord-association with the ICE office in Portland.
The service manager in Portland has been doing an excellent job mitigating a difficult situation that is completely outside his control. Tesla has responded by moving all vehicles inside the facility and moved all deliveries from this location to the Washington Square showroom.
This morning, Department of Homeland Security Police began taking down the anti-ICE camps surrounding and on the Tesla property, but the result of the large police presence was that service appointments were cancelled for today and the facility closed to ensure the safety of the Tesla employees, customers and property.
