Tesla and Mercedes Tie Up

What exactly is the financial relationship between the two companies? I recall a business publication quoted somewhere on this forum saying Mercedes had basically rescued Tesla with a cash infusion in the early days prior to launch of products. Was it a loan or an equity stake, and what is the consensus view of the implications for future joint product development?
