Tesla Android App GBs of Storage

Something odd…several times over the past few days the phone (Android) has bleated it’s running out of storage, never known this before. After a few rounds of deleting stuff it kept happening, when eventually I realised the Tesla app was using over 6 GB of storage.

Didn’t want to risk deleting its data so gave it a Force Stop, after which storage was down to sensible levels. But, it’s built back up to ~400 MB in no time, which seems a lot.

Does anyone happen to know what causes this or how to prevent it ? Thanks.

Yeah, mine is using 329 MB for the app, 5.37 GB for the data, 65.31 MB Cache making a total of 5.76 GB I'm not sure what data it is storing but it does seem a lot... That's version 4.34.5-2724 on Android Samsung S22. It would be interesting to know what it is using on an Iphone...

Edit: I just checked my wife's phone and the total is under 0.5 GB. Same phone as my but only had it for a few months...

I might uninstall/reinstall the app to see if that helps...

I saw somewhere that this is caused by the widget. At least it seemed like it in my case. I removed the widget from my home screen on my Galaxy S21 and force closed the Tesla app. The space usage in data went from 18GB to 435MB. Didn't need to uninstall/reinstall the app or reboot the phone.

iPhone 12. Tesla version 4.34.5.
App size: 554.2 MB.
Documents and Data: 124.3 MB.

Haven't done more with it other than update it from time to time.

Wonder if this has anything to do with watching Sentry videos. I do have the enhanced connectivity; have checked the video once or twice; but it's as above.

Well I performed an unistall and reinstall. Very easy if you know your password and have a 2-factor code. It communicated with the car and set it self up as a key! Didn't need to go out to the car! Also the charge history was still available.

Before I had 42.7 GB free and now I have 51.3 GB free on the phone. That's even more than 6 GB gained...

Memory usage is now 333 MB. Let's see how it goes...

Note: You do need your key card to delete the old phone setting in the cars Locks screen.

Galaxy Z Fold 5
No issues here, although I do not have the app running in the background unless I am using the car.

I'm on the Fold 5 as well. I was constantly getting messages that the car was connected/disconnected. I forced stop the app and the messages stopped. I've no idea if I saved GBs of space but haven't felt a pinch on the newish phone.

Keeping the car asleep for the next month while we are apart is pretty important.
