Ford calls time on eco-car participation
Local auto market has turned lukewarm
"US carmaker Ford Motor Co has finally decided to withdraw from the government's eco-car scheme, saying the incentive models do not have enough potential to be keen on eco-friendly models."
"We had to re-evaluate the overall sentiment in the industry and consider which segments we are good at, and we decided not to renew the eco-car privileges," said Ms Yukontorn.

Honda, Alibaba to develop cars for online services
3 Jan 2018 at 19:55
WRITER: KYODO NEWS

TOKYO: Honda Motor Co will jointly develop connected cars with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd to offer online services to drivers.

Japan's third-largest automaker by volume and the Chinese e-commerce giant will aim to launch online payments for fuel, parking and other services in China through the jointly developed cars, the Japanese carmaker said on Tuesday.

Global automakers are focusing on connected cars with internet access to provide drivers with online settlement, shared traffic information and other advanced services.

Honda is hoping to attract more customers in China, the world's biggest auto market, through the tie-up.

Among other similar joint operations, the Japanese carmaker and SoftBank Group Corp said in November that they plan to develop connected cars that would provide drivers with a wide range of information, including about traffic conditions and nearby accidents.

The two Japanese companies aim to strengthen connected car technology by adopting speedier 5G next-generation mobile communications.

GM proved this year that Tesla has no competition. The Bears keep saying that the established automakers have the money, the knowledge, and the factories to crush Tesla as soon as they start making EVs. Well, GM had a NINE MONTH head start on the Model 3. After a full year of production, they sold less than 24,000 vehicles (which is less than 1,000/week production currently). I predict that Tesla will produce at least 250,000 3s this year. So even after starting 9 months after GM, Tesla will sell at least TEN TIMES as many cars as GM (who had a head start). It is shocking that the shorts can look at this information, and STILL believe that Tesla will fail. As for me, I bought even more stock today. :)

VW CEO said one of their advantages over Tesla is that they can produce a million cars, no problem.

Seems they can't fill demand for the Golf GTE in the UK and have halted orders. That is a PHEV with an itty bitty battery. What happens when they try to fill demand for ID Cross and ID Buzz?

Ex-Google, Tesla Driverless Car Czars Partner With VW, Hyundai

Aurora -- a startup formed by one-time heads of autonomous car projects at Google parent Alphabet Inc. and Tesla Inc. -- will develop self-driving electric vehicles with Volkswagen AG and Hyundai Motor Co., the two automakers said in separate statements. The car companies, latecomers to the technology upending the sector, are exploring using the self-driving systems for taxi services, robotic deliveries and even in-car advertising.

Urmson then recruited Sterling Anderson, the former head of Tesla’s Autopilot, a driver assistance system. Tesla sued Anderson, now Aurora’s chief product officer, in January 2017 for breach of contract by joining Aurora, and subsequently dropped the lawsuit in April.

This seems big. When do you expect VW to start crowdsourcing data from vehicles sold to customers?

Audi announced start of production of the e-Tron full electric SUV for August of this year. Goal production for 2018 is 4700. They are also taking reservations for the first production cars for 2000EUR a piece.

It'll be interesting to see what happens as that date gets closer. VW/Audi has been the undisputed king of EV press releases and concepts with little indication of actual effort on their part so far.
