Tesla cancelled my order

Stating that because of being in Florida, they need 68" set back all around the panels due to wind speed. Has anyone else heard this?

I have like 4 quotes from other Florida Solar companies that are ready to go at obviously far more expensive than Tesla which is why I want to go with them but they apparently wont do it.

Any one in FL have any insight on this? Has anyone heard about the needed clearance around the panels?

I know @BrettS got panels installed in Orlando recently. Did you have a similar requirement, Brett?

It’s definitely not a universal Florida requirement because I’m up near Orlando and Tesla did my solar install and I have nowhere near 68” around the panels. I know that the wind speed requirements down in south Florida are much stricter than the ones up here near Orlando.

You said that you got several other quotes from other companies. Are they also planing for a 68” setback around the panels?

No, none of them have brought up that concern at all. I am reaching out to the city code office to get permit information to validate the claim. I am in Fort Lauderdale.

That is over 11' of set back for each direction. That would prevent solar on most residential roofs. Hopefully there was something which was miscommunication to you.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the edging Tesla puts around the sides of sections of panels.

I am in FL too, they have not cancelled mine. As of now I have an Oct 1 install date (ordered on July 18). I am in SW Florida, so possibly different wind codes than you though.

Are you near the coast? I know that building codes are different if you are near the coastal areas
