"so·cial·ism

noun
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

This has nothing to do with the government providing essential services.

??? The police department is an organization 'owned' by the community in which we pay taxes in EXCHANGE for police officers to enforce laws and keep the peace. The fire department is an organization 'owned' by the community in which we pay taxes in EXCHANGE for fire fighters to keep us safe.

Socialism has everything to do with the government providing essential services. There is such a thing as a private fire company and private security services. Are those not examples of capitalism?

Socialism gives us plenty of great things: Public School, Fire departments, Police, paved roads and oh yeah the Military.

You have painted a really nice black and white picture for yourself, but everything has trade-offs; Socialism and Capitalism are both far from perfect; Capitalism rewards greed above all else.
thats pure BS....our taxes pay for schools , fire and police......

I had a conversation with my sister's daughter a couple of weeks ago. She told me that socialism was better than capitalism because everyone gets a fair share. So I said to her ok. How about if the college you went to took all of the people who got high grade point averages and took 15 points off of those students. Then gave those points to students that had lower grade point averages. She said that would not be right . She stated that herself and the other students worked hard for those grades and that would not be fair I said to her but everyone would be sharing their grades I mentioned to her that she supports equality for everyone. So why not make it equal

1) That's not socialism;

2) That's an idiotic analogy to wealth inequality. Real world inequality would be more like if 1 student had a GPA of 1B and gave points to other students so they could have a higher grade. You could take 100M points away and the student would still have a A++++++++ .... +++++++ ......... ++++++++++++. At some point wealth no longer improves your quality of life.

Also... most people with wealth didn't 'work hard' for it. I'm financially independent. I quit my job ~3 years ago. I'm not so naive as to think I 'worked hard' for most of my money. The good people at TSLA, AAPL, SAM, COST and a few other great companies are the ones that 'worked hard' for my money. Yay capitalism.

This is such a childish argument in favor of capitalism that I would expect it to be your sister's daughter or granddaughter who put it up, not you who is a full grown adult
