Tesla is installing six of its Powerpack energy storage systems in Puerto Rico to help the territory restore power following Hurricane Maria. Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello confirmed the new projects to Bloomberg.
Nearly the entire island lost electricity after the hurricane ripped through the region. Tesla shipped hundreds of Powerwall battery systeems to Puerto Rico and a team to install the systems following the storm.
Tesla shared photos in October of its first solar and battery instillation at a children’s hospital in San Juan.
The statement from the governor’s office to Bloomberg called the latest projects “a humanitarian effort.”
