Tesla Energy Prices (California, August 2024)

A recent discussion prompted me to update my pricing table for Tesla Energy prices in California as of today (August 2024). Some changes I noticed:

• Solar now must be installed with Powerwall, previously it was an option
• Option for delivery of Powerwalls w/o installation is gone.
• Cost of individual Powerwalls are up from $7,500/each early 2024 to $8,200/each August 2024
• PW prices were $8,500/each September 2022 to March 2023. They dropped to $7,500 each approx. June 2024 to early 2024.

In a lot of cases its like getting your house completely re wired. Sort of like asking why a house plumbing re pipe is so expensive, when the pipe itself isnt that pricey.

The complexity of the installation can vary but Tesla is using a flat fee model. If you were just installing PWs with a backup switch the installation could be relatively quick. In my case it involved installing the gateway, a backed up loads panel, a non backed up loads panel, and moving all the loads to the new panels. Add in generating the plans, permit fees, and inspection it can add up.
