Cars with 500 KWh batteries maybe? Unlikely, but I'm sure some people would be dreaming of the possibility. 50 GWh is nothing to sneeze at though. I expect most of that will be used for domestic production. The Chinese are really pushing electric cars and their domestic car market is exploding.
Wasn't the plan to have GF1 already be at 35GWh or even past that? Why are they still stuck around the 24GWh rate after almost a year of volume production.
I respect Elon..quite a bit. I love Tesla. There is no way that this plant gets built as quickly as we'd all like. Germany...where nothing happens quickly.
Germany just started, and they are already looking for the next location. We will see if Texas changes their tune about direct sales there, if they get a shot at the next plant. Would this be for the CYBERTRUCK and the semi?
He changed his twitter location to Austin, so he could be there (physically or virtually) negotiating such a change. Others think that means the gigafactory would be at or near Austin, but for all we know he could put it anywhere between there and the mexican border and still have access to the coast for a reasonable price.
Austin has a significant technology base, so that might be a good spot to find quality workers. That is pure speculation since I don't know the mix of skills needed for a Gigafactory.
Apparently there is also another location interested in the next Tesla factory, and like Berlin, part of the work has already been done. https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2020/01/08/a-tesla-expansion-in-north-carolina-it-may-be-on.html?ana=yahoo&yptr=yahoo&fbclid=IwAR1NKhxK1tikmNRH8Gmr2UcWlT7s3K4tqJ-3jZp8KkCP0Mxs-SeunfIyXKU
It was for a Toyota plant, that ended up going to Alabama. Probably more paperwork, studies and environmental approvals for an auto plant.
