Tesla home charger button doesn’t open car port

I’ve got 202016.2.1 installed on my Tesla 3 and I’ve just noticed the button on my Tesla home charger cable no longer opens the charge port on my car. I have to do it manually or via the app.

Anybody else notice the same.

That's an old thread, the usual cause of this is if the car is asleep, i.e. you've turned off sentry or another setting which would have been keeping the car awake.

The same happens in reverse, if it's plugged in but not charging and enough time has past for it to fall asleep, the button won't unlock the cable either - you have to wake the car by the app or by tapping one of the door handles.

Alternatively, could just be that your button has become faulty.

If I open my car door the screen comes on etc so the car is definitely awake.

If I then press the charger button the charger door does not open.

If I then manually open the door and insert the charger it locks in place. I can then use the button on the charger cable to release the charger so the button can not be faulty.

What method are you manually opening the (charge port) door? Pressing the charge port itself or via screen or app? If doing it from screen, do you sit in (or put weight on the) drivers seat to do it?

I open it by pushing the bottom of the charger door or via the app.

Just rebooted the car and tried again. It worked 1st time but after removing the plug and closing the port it refuses to work again.

I’m sure it’s software and not a faulty button.

My x has had this issue for 18months SC couldn’t replicate or fix. I just live with it. I’m use to just pressing the panel and it opens

Are you near a Service centre or a place with a Tesla destination charger so you can eliminate the problem with a charger? Worth a shot

or a supercharger, or another owner nearby

My SR+ does the same sometimes. I have two Tesla wall connectors and they have the identical problem with the door. It always opens from the app though. Must be a software glitch.

Good idea. Just driven to a local hotel and tried theirs. It works. Drove home and tried mine....It works!!

I’m confused, yesterday it refused to open it but it would unlatch it to remove. I’m sure it’s software related. Never had a problem like this before. If the button works to unlatch the charger cable must be working correctly.

Knowing nothing, I wonder if it is some sort of bluetooth issue with your phone? What phone have you got?

As I said, I know nothing. But, the car sees your phone is near with bluetooth, so if the bluetooth connection is dodgy it doesn't see your phone and won't open the charge port.

iPhone 11. BT connection seems fine. Works faultlessly in the car. However, if it fails again I’ll check the BT connection.
