Tesla in "Tomorrowland"? Wait, it's Chevy Volt...

The plot of Tomorrowland was discussed in an NYT article. It sounds like Tesla, the man, may appear in the movie. What's ironic is that the Chevy Volt is featured in the movie. I wonder if Tesla (the car) will also appear? I guess not if GM threw some money at Disney....

Frank Walker (Thomas Robinson) arrives at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, where Walt Disney debuted the “It’s a Small World” and “Carousel of Progress” attractions before taking them west to his Anaheim, Calif., park. Later in the film, we’re told that Thomas Edison, Gustave Eiffel, Jules Verne and Nikola Tesla had gathered at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris to form Plus Ultra, a secret society dedicated to the betterment of mankind. These two fairs and times shape the look of both “Tomorrowland” the movie and Tomorrowland the setting, a futuristic world one travels to, not by jetpack or time machine but by magical pin.

GM is the "title" sponsor of the test track ride at Epcot. They have a whole exhibition deal setup as you exit the ride complete with a working showroom and GM product specialists. Since they are already in bed with Disney I guess they just carried over that marketing strategy.

Just saw the movie and he does appear.....even some Tesla vs. Edison banter that was over everyone's head except mine. haha. There is some other stuff that seemed like Disney contacted Elon to get ideas about Tomorrowland on....I loved the movie and the idea based around Tomorrowland and what happens. Go see it!

I enjoyed the movie too. And yes, I was also wondering how many others in the audience understood the "AC vs. DC", "Tesla vs. Edison" banter.

At one point you see a sign over an entrance to a building in Tomorrowland that says "TESLA CENTER". My recollection is that the font was rather similar to Tesla Motors' font, but of course the "Tesla Center" in the movie is akin to a science center, not a car factory. Also, some Chevy-badged EN-V vehicles appear in Tomorrowland, but the Chevy Volt at the end is not recognizable as a Chevy - or at least I saw no obvious Chevrolet badges on/near the Volt.

Of course the Tesla Model S really takes us there, however, the new Chevy Volt is Tomorrowland's promotional vehicle, and that's o.k. Any vehicle that strongly promotes a reduction in CO2 helps our little blue marble. < 2°C is the main goal.
