Btw, MCU2 AFAIK also has soldered on EMMC, so still the same problem, though maybe they reduced the logging?

It is 64G vs 8G ... after many repetitive writes to a single location, the data fails to record properly so a bigger emmc means a much longer time before failure.

Elon just froze all the MCU1 owners with that tweet. Anyone who had thoughts of trading up for a newer MCU2 car will do nothing now and sit back until he clarifies his tweet.

Well, not sure he and Fred are on the best of terms from some tweets I saw back when. Need someone else to get him next time to try to clarify.

I really don’t think he meant get caraoke working on MCU 1....

This behavior doesn't change with MCU2, it just has more flash memory so the MTBF (mean time between failure) is much longer.

I thought this moved to sd card? Significantly easier to replace than soldered down on mobo...

Not to my knowledge, I think ingineer went through it in the video he did with Rich rebuilds on YouTube. Granted it was in reference to the model 3 but same same....

AP logs to SD but plenty more goes to eMMC in MCU. This behavior has somewhat recently been curtailed. I think after 2016 it went from extreme to excessive to not ideal but less insane since 2019.

One would think if TSLA, is watching this forum, they would stop all the Linux logging, and keep the TSLA logging.

It could be an easy push to the MCU1 systems, I imagine.

It's Even easier than that they can keep all the logging on and just mount /var/log as tempfs so it goes to memory. Then dump it to SD or to MMC if there is a condition that warrants saving the logs.

I see. I thought VG indicated it was reduced but at least it's not plaid mode logging still.
