Tesla Inverter + Neurio

Unfortunately I am unsure. If it's a Tesla installed delta inverter and they had been using the powerblaster with this setup in the past, I would assume it's not set up for this. Before I realized the Neurio is likely going to give me consumption data I had begun to look at alternate way to get the data I would have wanted outside of Tesla's ecosystem.

This is all presumption on my part, but it sounds like Tesla was making the transition to the new Tesla Inverter, which connects to the consumption monitor via WiFi, but were still installing 3rd party inverters and ran out of Powerblasters since the new setup no longer requires them...

There are third party solutions that will monitor your consumption as well as production. The production monitoring is done within the breaker box with additional CTs where the power coming in from the inverter goes into a breaker. Look at the Sense Energy Monitor with Solar as an example.

Obviously this solution won't integrate into the tesla app but you'll still get data, and likely even more data than Tesla would provide.

So if one has batteries, with the CTs in the GW, does no need anything else? would a Neurio add many more value?

Some other third party monitoring might add some value if you wanted to go through and get that setup. A couple threads on some of those options are here:


None of those interface with the tesla app, but that wasnt your question, you asked would a neurio add value. It wouldnt add any value to you, since you have powerwalls. one of the other third party solutions with its accompanying setup and app might, if you wanted some information it provided. You already have the functionality of the powerblaster because you have powerwalls.

Then use Grafana to plot and analyze with different dashboards. Here's one of the dashboards.

Wow, that is a cool dashboard! So with the generation data and net metering you can figure out total usage?

How do you get the Tesla generation data? I have a delta inverter so won't get data from solar edge...

Thanks, my request went all the way up to the Tesla resolutions department, we will see what they say.

What data is coming from where in that chart? I'd like to do something similar with the data in Home Assistant. Hoping Tesla will let me pull this kind of data using an API of some sorts.

The generation data is coming from SolarEdge (or Tesla) in 15 min intervals. The net meter data is coming from SCE in 15 min intervals. The consumption is the sum of generation and net meter data
 
Here is a follow-up, now that I have my solar hooked up with the power utility. I currently do not have consumption data displaying within the Tesla app, however, after getting a call to Tesla routed to an inverter specialist, she confirmed that the Neurio is installed to give the inverter production data. She suggested that full activation of the system behind the scenes can take some time after I am given PTO and that it is likely that something on their backend will trigger to let the app know it can display consumption data. She said if that does not automatically happen to log out of the app and log back in and if that did not work still to call them back and get back to her department. She suggested I take a look at Connecting to Tesla Solar Inverter | Tesla Support and connect my phone to the inverter after cycling the power on it. She explained that the UI there will show that the Neurio is transmitting data to the inverter. So... I did just that. The UI is pretty straight forward and I can in fact see the consumption data (or rather how power is flowing to/from the grid) and looking at the Site Meter tab I can verify that the serial number they have input is the same serial number that is on the sticker on the Neurio. To further test I removed one of the CTs around my utility power in and saw the Site Meter instant flow halve immediately, further indicating the consumption data would be based on data passed to the inverter by the Neurio.

I am going to give Tesla a week or so and then log out and re-log in to the app an see if the UI changes to allow me to see the full power flow. If not, I will be calling them back and asking them to fix the issue on their end.

I think at the end of the day the confusion around all this is because they stopped manufacturing the PowerBlaster as they knew they would be going to their own in-house inverters. However, it is likely they didn't roll out the Tesla Inverter before they ran out of PowerBlasters, and as such, they had to save face and make it seem like they were doing away with the ability to see consumption data. Not that the Tesla branded inverters are rolling out, as per the original plan, they are being installed with Neruios that will allow the full functionality that installations with the PowerBlaster had.

As before, I will follow up as things change.

Very interesting, I have the utility company coming out today to commission our system so I’ll see what works. I don’t expect to see consumption immediately. I did notice that my software version is different from what you listed (20.50.3). Have you tried to update the inverter, not sure if Tesla recommends that.

I have... no update when I tried last.
 
Looks like I'm in the same place. Meters installed today however no word from Tesla yet on approval, system is running. I have two inverters with one showing site meter information and the other one not. Hopefully I'll get the consumption data in a few days but a tech did call me this week and say that only on inverter needed to connect to the neurio device. They weren't sure during the install and said it wasn't working. Fingers crossed, I want to close this out.

Tesla is out today and it looks like we've figured out what was going on. I'll follow-up when they return with a few parts but my data points for the grid and home were swapped. I have the new W2 Neurio device that works with the Tesla Inverters only.
Ok so my setup might be a little different from most but it looks like Tesla was successful. The root of my problem was with where the CTs where placed. I have a junction box where the power is split out of the meter before it hits the main panel. The CTs need to be located in that box not the panel, plus they moved the site meter connection to the larger inverter. Unfortunately this needed some extra work to re-route the CT's but was completed today. looking forward to a full day of good data from the app (hopefully tomorrow) for the first time.

I will say that these new W2-Tesla Neurio devices were(are) a pain for them to work through. They are going through a learning curve with them and apparently they are significantly harder to deal with than the W1 or previous Neurio device they installed with that little black gateway box.

I also need to give a huge thanks to the technician they sent out to resolve the issue. it took a few hours and he stuck with it, got parts and completed the job. He was personable and exhibited outstanding customer service. If Tesla adopts this behavior throughout their support model they will be unstoppable!
