The Maxwell dry method uses nanotechnology to apply the coating which not only eliminates messy expensive and volatile/environmentally unfriendly solvents, it also basically reduces the amount of empty space or inert "filler" molecules between the molecules in the final electrode film. The result is a stronger film with higher energy density. As well as being cheaper (estimated 15-20% cost reduction) and easier (up to 16x more throughput) to produce, the new Maxwell formula batteries will be more robust (bonding strength of electrodes up to 76% stronger - (148.8 kpa vs 84.3 kpa for slurry produced electrodes), and the resulting batteries can be charged and discharged faster. This means more power, more range (20% to 100% more range, that's minimum 400 miles for a long range or performance model 3 ), and even faster recharging. And more profit. Having seen a cross sectional diagram of the process, it looks like a photocopier. (And yes, I do know about photocopiers)

I probably should have said "uses nanotechnology in the coating", as it does look like the conductive films are made using electrostatic processing.
