The future of EVs - PV solar paint to charge their batteries:

UNSW forum brings transport sector together on solar-electric revolution

Following on from an earlier discussion about EVs supposedly depending on coal power in Australia, I feel in many ways Australia is indeed still the "lucky country". It has been leading the world in PV solar research for many decades and many PV solar cells around the world use technology that was developed right here in Australia. However, the opportunity to develop a world leading PV export market has been squandered due to a lack of political will to make this happen.

Instead of spending/wasting time/resources investigating small nuclear power electricity supply or prolonging the life of the coal industry, Australia could take the lead in commercialising PV solar paint for EVs. This will take decades to commercialisation, but is the kind of investment that ensures long-term economic prosperity. No doubt it would yield plenty of spin-off benefits for powering IoT devices via "solar paint".

I think Elon and Professor Martin Green would make a formidable team in making this idea a reality.

How cool would it be to have a Model 3 with solar paint that [partially] charges itself while driving/parking in the sun? Likewise, your smartphone could be covered in solar paint, so it charges up whenever it is exposed to light.

If we really want to move to sustainable transportation, we need to think a few steps ahead.

No Nuclear Fusion, S/X owner do not jump the reservation queue, but you were not listening.

As I was the first to line up - two days before registration began - Tesla personnel [and Elon] made it clear from the very beginning that priority would go to existing Tesla customers.

I guess Tesla said so right from the beginning to avoid any misunderstanding or disappointment.

Unfortunately, it now seems that many people simply were not listening and in addition, queuejumpingphobia seems to be a contagious disease around here.
Yes, existing S/X owners do jump the queue (so long as they placed a reservation at any time). As advised directly to me by Tesla

I know you're joking, but I'm in the same boat (based in Perth, delivery "set" for melbourne). I offered to fly to east coast if it was quicker and was told it wasn't possible due to licensing.
Haha dedication! I love it!

You could buy a temporary registration, tell Tesla not to register it, and just use the temp registration as it's valid in all states.

One of the best charging summaries I've seen.
You could add that the version 1 Tesla UMC appears to be available from
US $758.03 9% OFF|Brand New OEM 1058220 00 E 1030035 02 B UMC Charger Charging Cable Harness and Adapter for Tesla Model X-in Cables, Adapters & Sockets from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
for about AUD1000 which is a great deal cheaper than the Juice Booster.
Ray, I have a 2015 tesla wall unit charging my model S at 40amp single phase, can i use it to charge the model 3 when it finally appears, do i need an adaptor or do i need to install its own wall unit. I did not want touch the wiring as AGL still doing the $1 a day charge

Delivery specialist finally got through to me today (Have limited mobile coverage) and confirmed all my details and advised invoice will show up before end of week. Advised delivery will be early September for Perth, couldn't confirm if SR+ comes with floor mats, but closer to date will advise of accessories available.
Also just noticed my hidden VIN changed by two serial numbers today.
Feeling very lucky being in first batch.

Yes. Both cars take Type2 AC single phase at 32A. Model 3 can use any Tesla wall connector, destination charger, etc.

(Charging Adaptors — TSL43.info covers S and X a little as well)

That's what I've got - it should work although you may have to dial the current down.

Ooh, ooh.... Just got the change on my account to "We will shortly upload a copy of your final invoice to your Tesla account. Following this, a delivery representative will contact you to arrange final payment."

Progress is exciting!
