A question to those of you who have a VIN – when did the hidden VIN appear on your account?
Was it:
1. once the car was manufactured
2. once it was on a ship
3. only on arrival in Australia?

Being #VINless I'm wondering if my car has manufactured or if it already on a ship somewhere...

Well my car was manufactured on July 10, arrived in Australia on August 16, and I got a VIN on August 30! Don't have the car yet - that won't be for about another four weeks...

I believe Opticoat didn't hide scratches. According to my detailer, the detailer needs to fix all paint defects before applying the coating; otherwise, it will stay under the coating forever.

I agree with you... it worths the money.

Correct, Opticoat doesn't hide scratches, but part of the process a certified installer goes through is paint prep which includes buffing out minor scratches, and Phil did a great job of that before the Opticoat went on. Very happy with the result.

I had my VIN prior to it arriving in Australia. I believe it was provided once it was on the ship but might have been earlier as I was in the first batch where they made cars expecting a certain demand level and then allocated as needed.

Another call for me, and probably others in the same boat here in Brisbane. My Friday morning delivery, which became a Saturday afternoon, is now a Monday night delivery. Apparently my car is still in Sydney. Once again, not going to hold my breath. I can now relax and just enjoy the weekend without wondering if it will turn up.

Oh oh. I don't like the sounds of that. My scheduled delivery is 10:30am Monday.

Does anyone know if this is normal/expected?

Lots of paint bubbles, trunk interior edge (frunk also has these, but not as significantly):

Large paint folds in both corners, trunk interior:

Noticed when using one of the actual delivery checklist PDF's to do a more thorough pass over the car.

Are Teslas painted by robots or someone using spray cans of paint? THIS is bloody awful on a >$70 car...ANY car in fact. Hyundai would be hauled over the coals for this sort of 'work'.

And to confirm, are you definitely looking at the right page?

Yeah the 3 has been made for 2 years now. It is pretty inexcusable.

Yup, well Hyundai Kona Electric is the same price as a SR+. You can buy a tragically low volume $25k car that looks like a $25k car with Hyundai paint and a big battery or you can buy a Model 3 from a small new company with big plans.

Tesla are delivering 2500 cars in a month. How many did they sell in AU last year?

Sydney. P3- 499XX Vin.

VIN should be 4991XX

Also - call seemed to originate from a Japanese number. I queried this with the delivery specialist. He was surprised but stated that that may be why many were hanging up on him. Thinking it was a scam - I asked for details (RN and scheduled delivery time). He was on top of them. Also - page on tesla.com updated with new delivery pretty quickly (so if it's a scam its a very good one - and they'll have two days until I find out).

Tesla's are painted in California which, due to their environmental and safety laws, means they have to use water based paint, which is not ideal. Doing a better paint job would be much easier if the car were made somewhere other than California..
