Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Well only around 8 people live in Tasmania making it pretty easy but theres always a silver lining!
On the other hand it is a beautiful place so it will be really nice to drive through.

Unfortunately there is a grand total of zero superchargers in Tassie so it might make it a bit slow but theres other alternative charging methods too.
I believe Chargefox is doing some work down there shortly too.
Tasmania is the size of a postage stamp after all and so you can drive the full length of it with one charge of an LR or Performance Model 3. Considering the awesome touring potential and beauty of the place, I think that destination chargers are a far more useful and important thing to have there. Since you are unlikely to drive more than about 300-400km in a day anyway, being able to get to a destination and just charge up over night would be awesome.

That said, I think that this applies to the mainland as well. For regular holiday touring for example, running 300-400km/day is a nice relaxed pace. If every motel had destination charging, we could spend literally no time charging at all on our trips. Sure Supercharging is great for those long days (I for one have often driven more than 1500km in a day), but beyond a certain density on major highways, are of far less utility. We don't need to saturate the inner city with them for example, just have them on the major routes in and out of each city.

Definitely, I wouldn't flood the place maybe just one or two or so. Not having any is a bit annoying though especially for such a scenic country. Definitely would like more destination chargers though. Pretty much every hotel/motel I would choose to stay at would have to have a charger of some type preferably. So your just losing out on extra business by not having them.

Just like the rest of Australia they forgot that Tasmania existed, discovered them after using sophisticated technology called Google Maps and did them last.

That's the annoying thing, many of these cars were on the August ships coming into the country and were scheduled for delivery around the same time as others that arrived then. If the Tassie orders were told "sorry, you'll be last, not til October" at the start then, while annoying, that would be OK, but it's been delay after delay. I have no idea what the "pre-delivery process" involves but it must be pretty impressive if it takes 2 weeks!

The state might look small but a return trip between the two biggest cities is 400 km. A trip from Hobart to Burnie (the two most distance cities) is 325 km one way. And thats only on the highway down the middle. If you disembark the ferry at Devonport, drive down the west coast, and then on to Hobart, that's 525 km - and you can probably guess that is not exactly a flat straight route either!

However it's not all bad news - the state government had a fast charger grant program earlier this year and there were 12 successful recipients. By July 2020 it should look like this at a minimum:

The purple dots in particular are Evie Networks locations. To a Model 3 owner, these will be practically as good as a supercharger. Same speed, same connector, similar cost. Two bays at each location.

Agree. Not sure if the glass is the culprit though, or if the 'Auto' mode just isn't aggressive enough with the cooling. If I'm starting from the garage it tends to do well. But if I park the car outdoors around midday and then get back in the AC is all like:

It never seems to kick up the fan speed to deal with the excess heat. Doesn't seem like a temperature setting thing, as if I manually dial up the fan speed it'll cool down the car quick enough. It just seems too reluctant to do that on its own.
Exactly the experience I have been having. If I park in the sun, then auto setting for cooling is way too weak, always the top side of the car temperature where my head is, appears to be uncomfortably warm and radiating heat from above, then if I turn AC manually to about twice as fast fan speed, it all gets nice in about a minute. I was thinking that once the roof shades come available accessories, I might get those and see if I feel less heat glare from the roof when the car parks in the sun. If I get in the car on sunny day after parking in the sun for a few hours, that roof appears to be really hot and radiating heat even after the AC starts blowing cold air.

Has anyone got their deposit back after taking delivery? I paid in full because the invoice listed deposit refund for whatever reason, and didn't want to delay things any further because they said it would be hard to fix. Was told the deposit automatically refunds back.

Very poor, I am still waiting for my 4.5K refund. Settled 28th August prior to delivery on the 10th of September (Delayed from the 2nd of September).
About 8 communications on the matter, surely finance aren't delivering cars as well?

It's finally here! What a beautiful car!

Model 3 P-
Res 13/01/18
Ord 31/05/19
Delivered 10/10/19
VIN 5036
Odo 7km
Arrived with 87% charge

Fit and finish is amazing. There was a scrape on the plastic trim under the right side of the car however.
It was on the top above the driver on the Carways truck, so the rear is splattered with bugs. Will need a good wash. Unfortunately the wall connector is missing. Tesla will be sending me one.

One odd thing which I hope someone here can help me out with before I contact Tesla. I accidentally turned on the wipers while driving, and now above 80km/h there is this flapping/tapping rattle noise coming from directly in front of the driver's seat. This noise goes away when operating the wipers however. Anyone else come across this?

Thought I would close the loop as promised from my previous post #9225 on Sep 17, 2019 showing a few cosmetic defects on delivery for one of the first Perth deliveries that a few people thought were completely unacceptable and I shouldn't accept the car etc etc. Scheduled service with the app, got appointment Oct 7th at 8am (in hindsight could have asked for priority by dealing directly but cosmetic stuff not important), dropped off car and went camping. Got text under 24hrs later saying car is ready for collection. Picked up car from the 'Mirage' paint and panel shop (basically Porsche)..based on reviews, probably one of the best in Perth, looking perfect...all chips, dents, scratches and panel gaps sorted. One tiny issue they needed supplies for and they will do that with mobile service when parts arrive. For those that really want to know the reverse dent shown on the video was an electrical connector slightly out of place. The offending connector was moved to its proper place, they heat treated the area and you would never ever know it was ever there. Suffice to say, my trust that Tesla will sort the issues was firmly reconfirmed. Car now flawless on the inside and out.

That sounds like the plastic cowl cover is not installed correctly or loose. Open the bonnet and remove and replace the cover directly under the windscreen.

Did anyone go to the symposium thing today?
I popped into Martin Place around 2:30pm and there was nothing going on, and only one member of staff who was busy.
I popped through the one in Brisbane at just about 1PM. There place was somewhat busy, so they were all hands on deck. Had a chat with a few employees and was hoping to talk to someone from maintenance about a few software bugs, but turns out maintenance is not on site and needs to be logged through the car or phone app and the people there had about as much knowledge/information as I did on those matters.
There were also a few guys from Tesla Owners Club there and they gave me a leaflet about Model 3 bootcamp happening on 20 Oct at Maleny Showgrounds. I had a chat with the guys and left. I think the event was more targeting people who are not technically oriented and who do not follow forums and community, as there was not much for me there besides just socialising.
