Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I popped through the one in Brisbane at just about 1PM. There place was somewhat busy, so they were all hands on deck. Had a chat with a few employees and was hoping to talk to someone from maintenance about a few software bugs, but turns out maintenance is not on site and needs to be logged through the car or phone app and the people there had about as much knowledge/information as I did on those matters.
There were also a few guys from Tesla Owners Club there and they gave me a leaflet about Model 3 bootcamp happening on 20 Oct at Maleny Showgrounds. I had a chat with the guys and left. I think the event was more targeting people who are not technically oriented and who do not follow forums and community, as there was not much for me there besides just socialising.

Still good that they are doing it though.
Tesla Academy haha.

It's finally here! What a beautiful car!

Model 3 P-
Res 13/01/18
Ord 31/05/19
Delivered 10/10/19
VIN 5036
Odo 7km
Arrived with 87% charge

Fit and finish is amazing. There was a scrape on the plastic trim under the right side of the car however.
It was on the top above the driver on the Carways truck, so the rear is splattered with bugs. Will need a good wash. Unfortunately the wall connector is missing. Tesla will be sending me one.

One odd thing which I hope someone here can help me out with before I contact Tesla. I accidentally turned on the wipers while driving, and now above 80km/h there is this flapping/tapping rattle noise coming from directly in front of the driver's seat. This noise goes away when operating the wipers however. Anyone else come across this?

Did you notice the charge flap was open on the truck? Either it was opened up as they were strapping it down or the wind forced it open. The flap seems flimsy to me to be honest.

Are the tyres on SR+ and P- the same? Are they Michelin Pilot Sport 4? What's the noise level in the cabin like? Some have said the model 3 has a relatively high noise level.
My SR+ has Michelin Pilot Sport 4. The noise level is very low. Most of the noise comes from cranking the AC up so you hear the fan blowing cold air into the cabin. Road noise or tire noise is quieter than my C-class Merc was.

Has anyone noticed faster ghost power drain since upgrading to software version 10.

I frequently leave the car with sentry mode on for 24+ hour periods. With version 9, I noted roughly 3% drain per day. I installed version 10 yesterday around 1pm. Post install I was at 33% battery, and now (8:15am) I am at 26%.

Somewhat concerning.......

Glad it was sorted out for you. I still think Tesla should have fixed these before delivery though.
Yes and not only that but what effect will this have on your resale value later on when several panels of your car have been re sprayed from original paint? Any professional will be able to spot it easily with the naked eye not to mention anyone with a paint depth meter. They will then suspect your car was in an accident at some point as it would be hard for anyone to believe the brand new car needed a tonne of body work to be done.

To be fair, this problem is not unique to Tesla. Many other manufacturers end up doing partial resprays before delivery, you just never hear about it because they don't say anything. If you roll back through this thread, there are quite a few people who mention that their Merc/Audi/VW/whatever was resprayed before they picked it up and they did not realise until they went in to get some other body work done.

I had similar 8-9% drain overnight and it appeared the car was not going to sleep and kept the cameras on overnight. Even though the sentry mode had the option to exclude home selected.
I played around with settings and the only thing that helped was to turn off Bluetooth on the phone for the night, then the car went to sleep and only drained about 2-3% overnight. Turning manually off sentry mode did not do much difference in power usage.

If there's anyone on the Gold Coast looking for a good installer for their wall charger, I have to recommend Robina Electrical. I wanted 32amp and had a difficult install, 2 storey house with garage on the far side of the supply box, a 30m run. The first quote I got was $2,100.
They got it done for $682

I got mine done in Carrara by:

They did a 40A circuit from the power box to garage with RCD and fuses on controlled load for the 32A setup on the garage charger on single phase plus another 15A circuit from main power for use when solar is running that I can use with mobile charger. Total inc GST $618.82
Very happy with their installation :)

not to mention anyone with a paint depth meter

In fairness I've done private sales of a few used cars and one thing that's never once happened was a prospective buyer showing up with a paint depth meter.

They will then suspect your car was in an accident at some point as it would be hard for anyone to believe the brand new car needed a tonne of body work to be done.

I think reminding them that they're looking at a Tesla Model 3 would be enough to dismiss that suspicion. It's not like the fit/finish/paint issues are any sort of secret. :)

When I bought my Subaru we looked into the glovebox and there was a service history report with around 10 things on it to do with body, paint, etc.
Other manufactures do 'repair' their vehicles before they sell them either from factory damage or damage during transport, they just do it much more stealthily.
Unfortunately for them they left the service report inside of the car.

I went out for a drive last night to test V10 (2019.32.11.1) AP (no FSD) on the freeway, specifically when overtaking large trucks.

With V9, my car stayed dead centred in its lane when overtaking a B-double truck which, while admirable can be quite nerve racking .

With V10, the car nudged a bit to the right in its lane when overtaking a truck on the left, and nudged to the left when the truck was on the right :). Which is what I (a human) would normally do.

But when a truck overtook me on my right, the car stayed dead centre in the lane. Fair call I guess.

What are you doing overtaking a B-double on the left? Sounds like a recipe for death by crush injuries.
