Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Did you have a hidden VIN prior to contacting them?

I had one a couple of weeks ago that disappeared and then 5YJ3F7EB4KF4882xx appeared about a week ago.
At least I've got something to work towards, the complete lack of information was causing so much anxiety. Seriously, so many emotions over a bloody car. Now to line up a buyer for my existing car that's a few days before...

I have a car here which has tripled in price over the past 5 years (Evolution Lancer 6.5 Tommi Makkinen Edition), and you can say the same for many others - heck I sold my my old datsun 1600 I bought for $500 in 1990 recently for $25K - cash which was put towards my model 3 performance. ROI is a real thing for some vehicles, provided you choose the right ones. There is also evidence that the devaluation of high range EVs is far less than normal ICE vehicles, and of course running costs are much lower (around 1/3) such that total cost of ownership for the EV over 5 years or more can actually be less than a comparable (but crappier) ICE Total Cost Of Ownership: Tesla Model 3 vs. Toyota Camry & Audi A5 | CleanTechnica So why would anyone buy a camry (which itself signals a slow death from boredom) if you can afford to stretch to a model 3 ? Hint: - fuel costs in Australia are way higher than in the US, so expect an even more compelling TCO case over here.
Yeah, I think as the first long range EV, a Roadster could become an appreciating asset. The issue is when is the bottom?
As with any collectable, the problem is you never know when to time it.
Regardless, once FSD arrives, M3s will appreciate in value - they will be profit makers

Mine is "reminding" (/hassling) me to connect to wifi. But currently our wifi doesn't reach the garage, and the car doesn't support the kind of username/password sign in required to get onto the one at work. Looks like will need a wifi range extender...
Wifi mesh system - you can get a pack of 3 for under $100 & takes less than a minute to set up once they’re plugged in

Hardest part is running it up the wall, really depends on the situation.

They can, however to future proof your home nothing beats a $100 AP hardwired to your router/switch. Power line can have very different results depending on the age of the property and heaps of other variables
Have to agree with you on that. Tried all the cheap solutions, and it wasnt until I installed a network of 5 ubiquity access points that I got proper full speed reliable wifi around the house.

Hi everyone, Im a new poster but I've been following for a few weeks and many (many) pages now.
I ordered Sat 21st August 2019, M3P+ White with White in Sydney. No reservation.

Just got a hidden VIN today
5YJXCAE4XGF00xxxx
It links to a 2016 Model X P90D?

This whole hidden VIN thing is starting to get to me. I think it is better to have one than to not and seems a few who have contacted Tesla do get the response that "they can see a vin is assigned..." so it does have meaning. Glad you now have a 5171 VIN.

Having said this, I have your exact config. P3D+ white \ white. I am a 2018 reservation holder, first day order, first day change to white and yet I have no VIN. If there is an algorithm like we think, they pretty binary! Clearly either there is no algorithm, or more likely there is one that is quickly overridden by delivery specialists for some, and people unlike algos are random!

See you’ve fallen for Elon’s marketing around ‘FSD’.....formerly known as ‘autopilot’. No current tesla will ever achieve full level 5 autonomy, although tesla havnt promised that they will. Full Self Driving is a marketing term. Many have made an assumption themself on what it means.

Eh not quite but then I view FSD as a future potential, if it works out fine, if not no worry. There isnt a single other manufacturer selling cars with even that slim potential.

Oh good grief, tell me about it. So many sleepless nights over this purchase. I didn't stress this hard when I was purchasing a house.

Same here!

I even recently had my first Model 3 nightmare. Not quite what you might expect though:

.... in my dream I had taken delivery of my Model 3 [obviously only a dream!] and parked it somewhere. When I returned, it was gone. Apparently I had parked in a no-parking zone. For some reason, there was another guy in exactly the same situation as me, and we both tried to find the towing company that had taken our cars. I somehow woke up in that process...

I've seen several people who ordered the same config as me get all sorts of things I don't have. Like visible VINs and phone calls and invoices and delivery dates. I cringe a bit each time. And that's without the early reservation and first-day order.

Though also, you may have shot yourself in the foot with that change to the white interior. That option wasn't available until very late in the game. Unlikely that you can do that and still get an earlier delivery.

Well, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I cracked and (nicely) emailed Tesla (I have a hidden VIN - 4430 series - 2018 res, blue SR+) to see what they could tell me. I think based on the reply below I'm going to have to tighten the belt on my patience pants a bit more...

"Thanks for your email and your patience with the process.

As I’m sure you can imagine, we are inundated with orders and inquiries and as a result are not ready to schedule a delivery date for you, we will be in touch later in the month with more information.

It’s exciting I know, but hang in there – I assure you it’s worth the wait!"

I checked the wifi in my garage. It's underneath my townhouse through a concrete slab - something I was worried about. The 2.4GHz got through but not the 5GHz. I got 45Mbit down, which is about half the speed when in the house.
So hopefully it will all be ok.

For the 517xxx vins.

We know there is one invoice issued so far has a build date of August 6. Before the Vins were registered in Aug 11.

This makes it possible to be an ANL Warrnambool.

This is 4 weeks earlier than it would have been if vins were in sequence.

I have updated the vinship tracker to reflect this. At this point though it means 517xxx can arrive any point over a 4 week period from Sep 8 - Oct 4.

I can add that the wifi antenna is in the right wing mirror. In my case, this as relevant, as left rear would be close enough! (probably)

I agree! Hidden VINs definitely seem to mean something. There seems to be no apparent pattern to who gets one unless we are missing something.

Maybe they are just going off people names in alphabetical order? :D

We need a new column for people initials in the spreadsheet!

You should have realized that your car detected the danger of parking ticket and went for a quick spin around the block to avoid getting a ticket or being towed:
