I have read that a number of shops recommend going with the XR and not the XR Plus for the roof and rear hatch due to cracking of the glass in high temperature situations... Can you elaborate on this and what is your recommendation?

When I had my first m3 tinted in 2019, the tint shop would not use a tint darker than 35% because of what you mentioned
 
Never heard about that. The tint reflects the heat, not absorb.
Actually, it does absorb a good bit of the heat. I know that for fact from my previous car with XR Plus film.
This is what I was told by AP3: "I also have a Model 3, and would recommend XR Plus on the side windows only, as it absorbs so much heat that the rear and top windows can crack (according to several forum posts mostly out of California)."
