First, ensure there is plenty of space around and above the X. Then do the following:
(a) Open the driver's door from the main console or interior door handle
(b) Close the driver's door either manually or by pressing the door handle
(c) Walk sufficiently away from the vehicle (10' or more)
(d) Now, lock the car by single-pressing the top of the fob.

That's odd. I just went out and checked, and I still got the enable message (in my garage, so I can't actually run the show.) 17.11.14 Are you sure you're entering it correctly?
Only if you have "single press close" turned on. Many owners (myself included) have turned it off due to accidental presses inadvertently closing doors while passengers are entering/exiting.
With "single press close" turned off, all doors can be closed with three quick clicks on the roof of the remote.
