Tesla Model Y Glass Roof Sunshade

I can tell you I used it once, on a trip to Disney world, Orlando in August, very hot....

With that said it is not something you take down and put back up, it is tedious and honestly the clips fall off easily.

We left it on all weekend including driving.

The magnets will be just because of how they will pull the sagging part up. As I mentioned I have yet to install.

I also have concern for the metal plate and the 3m adhesive sticker with that much heat from glass. I can see it becoming a problem too.

For the clip problem that I mentioned we first used hot glue to hold clips to screen. Worked great however that trip to Disney we noticed the hot glue that was on the clip melted to the glass roof. We have since modified the hot glue to hold the clips to the shade and added felt to not let the glue melt to glass.

Not sure velcro would work any different than the magnets? Where would you install it in the MY?

Magnets for the day probably the simplest solution.
There was a suggestion to use magnetic tape - "What about magnetic tape around the frame that clips on to the trim? I was thinking of cutting out the fabric and rethreading a seal on the edges with magnetic tape. Easy to install/remove" If there was a second frame, separate from the sunshade, the new frame could be clipped into place at the edge of the glass using the current clips. This new frame would have velcro attachment points that would match up with velcro grip material on the edge of the sunshade. The benefit would be that it would be easier to remove the sunshade when desired than the current design, leaving the just the new frame in place until the next time you install the sunshade. I saw the photo of the magnets and I assume the metal disks were placed with the magnets but there is currently no photo showing the magnets installed with the sunshade.

I’m in Austin and would love to hear how version 2 of the sunroof cover is working. Although I might wait until the spring to purchase it.

Also, I read through the whole thread, and a lot of people talked about having their sunroof tinted like it was no big deal. When I was calling around asking about PPF and tinting, I got a lot of pushback from places saying that it wasn’t worth removing the headliner since the sunroof is already tinted. Do I just need to push harder? And about how much is tinting the sunroof? I had the windshield tinted with xpel XR black and Suntek for the front side windows for $350. They’re also doing full front PPF and I should finally get my brand new MY back tomorrow after it’s first 4 days in the shop.

Thought I would share with you my simple solution to reducing the sag in the roof sunshade. I used a scrap piece of wood lying about my garage to fashion a wooden stave 1 x 3/16 x 41 7/8 inchs, which Is then sprung between the two upper side trim pieces It stays in place by its own tension and effectively pins the screen tight to the roof. I have had it in place now for a couple of weeks and it has shown no signs of moving, takes about 30secs to install or remove. Trick is to having it just the right length and having a straight grain piece of wood with no Knots.
