This gentleman has developed a "UMC Drive Board" that is capable of controlling any EV motor inverter/motor combination!
I see this as the equivalent of adding a blower/turbo etc to your model S (or any EV).
I can imagine people picking up TMC Drive Units/Batteries and building some bad ass race cars etc, bypassing TMC's proprietary s/w and firmware. Probably some other uses for it as well, but I like fast cars and that's the 1st thing that comes to mind.
